Women working in Antarctica say they were left to fend for themselves against sexual harassers

Reply in thread

“Men will be men” just excuses the behaviour and ostracizes men who don’t do these things. It has less to do with their sex and more to do with how we raise men.

Toxic masculinity as a defence mechanism of patriarchal society is the main problem and “feminine”, “emotional” or “weak” men, or those not subscribing to heteronormative sexuality are targeted by the same types to uphold their status.

Mugshot has apparently been released

edit: nevermind seems it’s fake

edit2: a much more realistic (same style, same tie) photo has been making the rounds on twitter. Note the missing logo however:

edit3:

official mugshot (same as in edit2), has been confirmed by CNN:

What movie or show you didn't know was THAT good until you watched it?

Ted Lasso is a great stepping stone to get into soccer and also throughout its 3 seasons a great, empathetic critique of toxic masculinity and how racism, homophobia and narcissism affect individuals and groups. The writing, the characters, both the villains and the team members are well written and incredibly funny. One of my favourite shows I didn’t expect really like.

Cougartown is also very funny, I loved Community and had seen Abed reference the show several times before finally watched Cougartown. Lots of clever gags and jokes, well thought out, flawed characters with interesting dynamics and (mis)adventures.

Old folks will always gripe about kids rule

The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers.

Falschparker melden?

Whaf do you think of hosting an AMA with John Oliver to make Lemmy/kbin officially a viable Reddit replacement?

Bit of a longer TLDR including context, I'll call it a TLDDD (too long, didn't deep dive):

Doreen was a moderator of /r/antiwork, she went on Fox News to present the subreddit and why it was so interesting to so many. This wasn't agreed upon by the community or the other moderators.

Fox immediately tried to frame it as people just sucking off the teat of "corporate america" and not wanting to work. In reaction to this, Doreen failed to actually make any arguments that a Fox News viewer would understand and even played directly into the propagandist's hands by using out of context philosophies like "laziness is a virtue" and saying that she worked as a dog walker.

On top of this, Doreen was incredibly unpresentable in the video and looked like your average, basement-dwelling netizen, sitting in a dimly lit room with a 2010s webcam. For the right-wingers at fox, she was the perfect image of what they imagine leftists to be like:

  • Trans
  • Autistic
  • Socialist
  • Unkempt
  • No "real" job (dog walker)

Here's a screenshot from the interview to give you an idea of what I mean by unkempt and unpresentable

I can only recommend Our Changing Climates take on this: “Are Men Killing the Planet?”

The title is inflammatory, yes, but it’s a great video that drives home the point of masculine insecurity and a “dominance of nature” spurs a lot of the “masculine” stereotype behind trucks and SUVs.

Not just republicans, conservatives world wide have no relevant policies and have to resort to populist fear mongering to stay relevant. Look at England, Canada, Germany, Italy and RuZZia, they have nothing to offer but discrimination and ostracism.
