One good thing to come out of Reddit’s demise is that I hadn’t read her name in about three weeks.

In Europe, this is hardly a problem. I’ve recently been on the road more in the US, and it sucks. But I think it’s more so due to cars being ridiculously big and their lamps being way off the ground.

One thing that’ll need serious consideration:

I feel like it’s inevitable that Lemmy will get an advertisement module that admins can enable. Alternative monetisation methods can also work, such as subscriptions. But users will have to realise that servers aren’t free.

If you’re an admin for a small community and are willing to carry the burden: great. If you’re hosting a community that can support itself by donations: also great. But sooner or later we’ll need some ways to make servers sustainable.

(Not a fan of advertisements and would prefer to be a paying user, but as Lemmy takes off we shouldn’t look down on admins trying to mitigate their expenses).

If there’s one dish where I feel it’s a waste to eat animal meat, it’s hamburgers. Vegetarian alternatives have come a long way and in a burger they’re often the superior option.

There’s a small difference for sure, but the BM patties are far from inferior. And much of the difference is masked by condiments anyway.

The charging port is one thing. What’s worse to me is that it’s just a shit mouse.

Had to use one for two days recently; my wrist started hurting like hell. It lacks basic ergonomics and the scrolling is horrendous.

I don’t think Reddit will see a huge drop in users in the short term. But hopefully this whole kerfuffle will give a big enough boost to Lemmy to kickstart its network effect.

This is a terrible take and I would’ve expected better from Martin Brundle. A sport can be challenging and entertaining without endangering athletes well-being to such a degree. If the choice is to either DNS/retire or push the driver beyond the limit, you’re always incentivising the worse choice.

Sure, F1 carries an inherent risk, but there’s no need to make it actively worse. Qatar is a terrible place to go racing and this weekend proved it. Everyone knows it, and the only reason there’s a grand prix there is money and sports washing.

I’m not a fan and think he’s generally a poor choice. But a short stint at a company two decades ago shouldn’t be an instant disqualification… The headline feels sensationalised.

The “start your own instance” is twofold. You can indeed move away if you don’t like the rules one instance imposes. But at the same time, being an admin, you get the freedom not to associate with stuff you find problematic. You can’t expect an instance owner to pay for server space to host others’ whims.

From a more personal point of view, I’m really happy that I don’t have to engage with QAnon BS while browsing. It works well for the users too.

Teams are not allowed to drive their cars on track outside of a few set moments. There’s pre-season testing, a few days post-season, and that’s about it. Although a few weeks back there were extra tests for the new tires.

It takes a few years (three, I believe) for cars to become freely available to teams. At promotional events you’ll see Red Bull drive a repainted 2019 car, for example.

I’d already be very happy if everyone took your approach, but it’s not the entire story for veganism. Sustainability is an important factor for myself and many others, but so is animal welfare.

It’s a bummer that animal welfare is pretty much inversely correlated with emissions. Packing chickens together and making their lives miserable is much better for the environment than having them roam free.

Veganism happily aligns with environmental sustainability. But when you believe we shouldn’t exploit animals at all, just pushing to eat what’s sustainable ignores a lot of pain and cruelty.

You don’t have a representative for your region. The EU parliament is based on proportional representation, so seats are assigned based on the share of votes for a given party.

If you want to contact representatives, the list per country is the highest level of detail available. Personally, I’d start with the person or party you voted for.

The dairy and meat lobbies are something else. It’s like smoking in the fifties.

It’s well established that there are serious health concerns when you consume animal produce (not to mention environmental and animal welfare ones), yet the industry keeps pushing back on plant-based alternatives.

If you want to be taken serious in clown shoes, seek out the circus instead of the pub.
