TikToker who debunked Jason Aldean's 'Try That in a Small Town' video receives racist, violent hate mail

Reply in thread

Last I checked only one side wrote a super racist song about killing the other side of they “come to our small town and try that”.

I don’t see left wing terror attacks in this country do you? Because I see a lot of right wing ones, at pride, at power stations, at events with people reading books to children…

You have an incredibly stupid take and the “it will only divide us further” narrative is just pleading with one side to accept the terrorism of the other as not to make it worse. It’s like saying that the abused in an abusive relationship is also at fault, “They are both good people, she just makes him so mad sometimes that he hits her, she should stop making him mad” .

Also love that this is your only comment on lemmy….

Dianne Feinstein dies at 90

Reply in thread

Fuck that. Remember her for the way she decided to end it. The greatness of a person can be directly measured by their ability (or inability in this case) to walk away from power.

Her decisions caused real harm over these last few years and it should not be forgotten nor forgiven. If we do that we endanger ourselves to repeat this process with every aging asshole in power

Elderly driver plows into Los Angeles car dealership dragging customer 20 feet to her death

I let my license expire during the pandemic and had to retake the written and driving tests in my thirties. Made me of the opinion we should all have to retest for licenses every 10 years. It makes sure everyone is at least aware of the laws and also helps naturally remove licenses whose ability to drive has diminished for whatever reason.

Driving shouldn’t be something you certified in for life, it isn’t like riding a bike

Madison Reeves on why she left LMG

Yeah, the whole “it didn’t happen if it wasn’t reported to the police” thing is shit. There is unfortunately too long of a list of reasons as to why someone would be unable or unwilling to report these types of things and the attitude of the OP you’re replying to is on the list.

You would think after watching the droves of men and women coming forward during the me too movement would show people that coming forward at the time is extremely difficult and often not possible.

Spotify starts 'disinvesting' in France in response to new music-streaming tax

Reply in thread

What you are missing is that they are majority owned by the same record companies they are paying out 70% to. They even specifically structured the deals between Spotify and labels so that they pay labels in a way that allows labels not to credit artists for nearly 50% of all streams meaning the label gets to keep it.

Chokepoint capitalism by Cory Doctorow is a great book that goes into detail about how it works

Reddit claiming they weren’t recovering deleted posts

Reply in thread

I’m a web developer, that is absolutely not how any of this works.

Their claim that the scripts are failing causing comments to be restored is not possible. When you make a request to a website the site returns a success or fail status. The scripts are getting success statuses, the users are manually checking and seeing that their posts are deleted and then they reappear later. This means there is a mechanism between step 2 and 3 being run by Reddit affecting an already completed action.

Don’t comment on stuff like this unless you have any idea what you’re talking about.

Yeah her tweets plus lining up the nearly all male executive team to talk about the things they are fixing, which made no mention of the issues raised about employee treatment wasn’t a good look. Especially when they keep making a joke about firing on of them (maybe an ongoing LTT joke that I’m not in on).

They all had dead eyes and looked like they were reading from a teleprompter
