Anon tries to understand his coworker

Reply in thread

Well, I read like a hundred times that going for a coffee is an incredibly boring date idea and doing some activity you both actually enjoy is much better.

For what it's worth, I hate the idea of a coffee / dinner date. Seems incredibly forced and like some kind of an interview. Though, I'm not dating and not interested in doing it, so I might be completely out of touch.

NixOS made me lose my wife

Somehow NixOS really is like a fucking crack. I had like a 6 months non-stop hyperfixation about configuring everything using NixOS and Home Manager. Almost every evening. Now I have a polished setup of my personal and work laptops, homelab server and a VPS. And I have no regrets, this thing is amazing.

I have no idea how people use so much RAM. I use a 16 GB machine for work and it runs perfectly. For the majority of the time I'm well below 8GB. And I do use Electron apps.

Of course, I'm aware of the possible uses demanding more than 16 GB but I can't believe this would be the case for a majority of the people.

The benefits of using scripts over aliases

I have never heard of anyone using aliases for anything but trivial one-liners. I don't think people consider them as an alternative to scripts so I don't really get the point of half of this post.

However, the part explaining the benefits of using scripts over aliases even for trivial one-liners is pretty neat.

Anon has their wisdom teeth removed

WTF kind of drugs your dentist's give you? When I had my wisdom teeth removed I just got local anesthesia which made my mouth area numb and insensitive to pain for a few hours. I could literally drive home immediately after the procedure if I wanted to. Europe, for reference. Does this differ between the countries so much?

Dentists

I don't get how is it that brushing is normal for everyone but somehow flossing seems to be an impossible task. It literally takes even less time. It's so quick and simple that it just seems dumb not do it. Well, to me at least. Clearly that's not a very popular opinion.

It might protect you from a lot of Google's shit show but it won't show you good results too.

Kagi is the only usable search engine for me right now. Yes, it's not free. I needed a whole year to convince myself to pay for searching but I finally did it and it is absolutely worth it. I'm a SE though, so searching stuff is like half my job.
