Error When Trying to Use Pmbootstrap on EMMC for RockPro64

I plugged in a blank EMMC to my system via the Pine64 EMMC-USB adapter. I ran pmbootstrap and got to the step where I typed

"pmbootstrap install --disk=/dev/sdb --fde".

The error I got was

"ERROR: Command failed (exit code 4): (native) % cryptsetup luksFormat -q --cipher aes-xts-plain64 --iter-time 200 --use-random /dev/installp2"

Any ideas ? I'm using version 3.1 of pmbootstrap and am on an Artix system. Some other info:

Channel: v24.12 (pmaports: v24.12) Device: pine64-rockpro64 (aarch64) UI: mate systemd: no (not supported by pmaports branch)

I also attached a screenshot.

Anyone Bought From Mouser ?

Has anyone here ever purchased anything from Mouser ? I tried to buy a Sifive Unmatched from there and a day later the order was cancelled by their Customer Accounts Team "after further review". I will be calling them for more info but it just struck me as one of the weirdest experiences I have had with an online store.

Enclosure For Star64

Can anybody suggest an enclosure for the Star64 SBC ? The only one they list as compatible on the Pine64 store is the acrylic enclosure but that won't work if one wants to use the M.2 PCI-E card which I do. I think the ROCKPro64 Premium Aluminum Casing will fit well enough by looking at how the ports would line up but it would be nice to get more info before ordering.

Does any RISC-V Distro/Board Meet these Needs ?

When dealing with ARM and RISC-V devices one constant I see is that distros or devs will make a specific image for a device. This image usually lacks a few things I am used to. On X86 the norm is to have an installer where I can make many choices such as whether to have full disk encryption, choose which DE I want, choose which device to install to (such as NVME) and choose my filesystem type. Does any distro do this for any RISC-V board ?

Error When trying to Update Pinephone

I tried to update my Pinephone CE using "sudo apk upgrade -a" and received the error

"Not continuing due to stale/unavailable repositories. Use --force-missing-repositories to continue"

I am on 23.12 with Phosh. I remember hearing that the Pinephone may be getting dropped from main to community so I wasn't sure if this was related to that or something different. Is it safe to use the command it suggests ? I figured I would ask before blindly doing it.

Error When Booting GNUinos

I just tried installing Gnuinos and after finishing on first bootup this is what I get. I have tried on both Runit and SysVinit so I don鈥檛 think it鈥檚 do do with init issues. Any ideas on what the issue is and how to fix ? This system works fine with Trisquel so I know it鈥檚 libre friendly.

Phone Recommendation for Canada

I would love to use PostmarketOS as my daily driver but my Pinephone CE isn't really giving me the battery life I need to make it happen. I am looking at what phones I can get my hands on in Canada that would be better suited. So far the OnePlus 6T seems to be my best option. I can't get the Shift6mq or the Poco F1 shipped here. Any suggestions if battery life is my main need ? I take my phone off the charger at 11am and don't get home until close to midnight with no way to charge while at work.

Question About Updating

I recently installed Guix in hopes of learning to use it. I wanted to update the system and gathered from the reference card that the proper command was "guix pull". My issue is that while no error message is given this didn't seem to update anything after. One thing that makes me think this is that I'm still on the 6.0.10 kernel as I was before. Am I doing this wrong ?

Ubuntu Adds Support for PolarFire SoC FPGA Icicle Kit

Ubuntu has announced support for The PolarFire SoC FPGA Icicle Kit RISC-V Board. I am not always a huge fan of Ubuntu but if you're looking to get into RISC-V boards they seem to be always on the forefront of support. RISC-V is a great platform to get into as many boards have an open source BIOS and the architecture as a whole is a lot more open than x86.

The board can be found on Mouser among other stores.
