I had this idea about process food companies pushed me to eat unprocessed foods because it's cheaper.

It's a combination of shrinkflation and making foods addictive leaves me unsatisfied with the amount I take home, because I still have cravings after even after eating half a box of sweets. Plus seeing portion sizes get smaller messes with me, because Everytime I recognize a product it look physically smaller.

I like cooking things like rice because it kill craving and hunger and if I make too much I have leftovers.

I rather satisfied than constantly craving

I guess this is a me trying to figure out how to grow lemmy or fediverse in general. Just getting frustrated and want to do something constructive and put idea out and have idea come in.

In me head I head this line of "will you after engagement grows will you improve a project or will you improve a project to encourage engage" to me the answer settled on keep doing what you can to improve project and kinda hope it increases engagement.

For lemmy it seems as though the technical side is solid it's just building lemmy communities. Right now I'm thinking of building a Florida c/ but it would come off as a hard endeavor because idk what I'd do with it. Would I post random new stories in Florida would it be politics. Plus I've been told that posting links "clutters the Internet" and people would get confused as to where to find original links. Then there's getting people to a Florida c/, do I just go into discords and tell people about a fledging group

I do want geographical based c/ since they are more personal to people and would increase engagement on lemmy but that small steps that need to be worked out.

I do wonder if it would be worth it do sneak content from reddit to relevant c/. I know they do it for NSFW subreddits, but it might be worth it for hyper specific subreddits just to have that content to engage with, but that could be viewed as an IP infringement

I wanted to suggest that DSA as a hole on both chapters and party basic make supporting ranked choice voting, approval voting, or lottocracy (any one or all three). Really the suggestion does rely on everyone agreeing to support any one of these proposals.

The hole point of RCV or AV (approval voting) is to make easier for the DSA to run in primary elections without being accused of being spoilers and help encourage cooperation between the major parties and smaller ones like DSA.

Lottocracy is just a different paradigm of governance were people get chosen randomly to hold a position if power and it based off trusting a random citizen to do better than the average politician and legitimately only having the interest of a citizen

As a leftist I have been arguing with anyone on the right to some unhealthy degree. Seems like either the platforms I do use are just shrinking or the right side of the political spectrum aren't married to anything and pretty dispassionate now. I can attach trump but they aren't going to defend trump.

I would ignore anyone that would agree with me politically in the past, like they're cool, it's just wasn't the same rush you get when destroy someone's core beliefs you disagree politically

Recently I have been helping people that are political closer to me and getting out more. I'm not going to start conflict with them, because I'm on my journey of solidarity and I want to try working with people. It's been rewarding in a different sense, seeing a real live person in front of you be greatful or supportive is awesome, but it isn't the high as seeing someone someone's core beliefs just get crushed.

I should take taken a selfie because I wore a flag pole with the lgbt flag (🏳️‍🌈 this one) outside of the drag show in Pensacola and blocked all the street preacher signs. I had to dance to keep the flag waving and I ran across streets to make the flag wave.

It was a hilarious battle between protest of the drag queen and pro queen side. like the protestors actually came prepared. like they had carolers, megaphones, pamphlets, and signs. There was a hostile side and a side that was more gentle and promoting Christianity.

the side i was on with the pro drag show was me and another person just doing what we can and having some really unexpected allies just pop up, and actually getting a lot of love for carrying around the lbgt flag. I did my best to say that the drag show didn't get money from the government and simple the venue (it was an asspull at the time but I actually guess right), that my message to all the street preachers was that Jesus died for drag queens, and just dancing and smiling trying to come off as nice as possible to everyone.

the two unexpected allies that I remember were a motorcyclist revving his engine as loud as possible to the preacher with a hateful sign and a guy above the venue drowning out everyone including the preachers with his band equipment.

I did talk to one of the street preachers hoping it would only be about a good sandwich shop in p-cola, but it ended up with me telling them that I am gonna love drag queens and immigrants [like how Jesus intended us].

This has been in my head for months that one big problem with the fediverse is that you can get linked for a fediverse service but to an instance your not on and you have to find your instance and hope it's federated to the account your looking for.

I did run into this problem when I made a peertube plug in and I wanted to like videos but I had to paste in an instance just to get 404 error.

I'm just trying to drum up motivation for a writing a script that takes Post from sites like eBay and posts them to Facebook (vice versa). Idk if it would be too niche.

It would be too hard to make. Id making it in python and store all the posts into a .json file. Then I'd need different scripts for different actions like posting to Facebook or eBay.

I know other programs exist but one went from free to premium subscription and other only does 25 free cross Posts a month.

My DSA chapter had a social where we were on a beach roasting marshmallows and sausages over a propane fire. Hard being in the Pensacola DSA. But I noticed about the various college major pursuits in the DSA most. A bit are police science majors, there's a lawyer, good amount of humanities Major. I'm in STEM as an EE major, but I overheard stems being referred to "people that only see change through technology". Ironically I haven't brought up my education, but I have brought up my radio hobby a lot.

I'm in the DSA to try and see if I can coalition build and push class solidarity and I do think technology is needed To help justify the movement since we do mutual aid and it would help to prevent provide anything for the people we are helping.

I'm kinda curious if that's the case for other DSA chapter

The idea is you enter a parking lot to grocery store, movie theater, or strip club and you want to park as close as possible so that you can get to where you going as fast as possible or travel the least amount of distance. As you go through the parking lot you have a hard time finding a spot and you have to travel to see occasional open spot. You think "so far that's the closest spot but there might be a closer spot. Then you think how long should I spend looking, how long do I spend traveling around the parking lot, how long should I spend planning on finding the best parking spot, and how long do I spend thinking about planning?

It's just fun conundrum that been going through my head that should have interesting answers and has lead me to spends as little time thinking about finding a parking spot and just find the closest spot that I can see and just jump out and get inside the store

context: I forgot that a chunk of the lemmy community kinda likes to petty and I made fun of someone irrelevant to the fediverse for being petty and angry at me, and I asked if anyone else got had any examples of pettiness. some of lemmy users sided with the person I was speaking with and treated me as though I was offended, which was kinda interesting.

I did think a scenario about asking a cop what the worst case of police brutality they witnessed?

So I talk to some curmudgeon online and decided to share the small things I've done to help stanger just to irritate them and get the idea that I'm making an attempt real world people. I did get an hilarious response like:

-"your one of those affluents with a savior complex thats going to "save the working class" that it was never part of"

• "Getting off to moral superiority you have no morales or soul you dont care about people you just wana feel cool saying fuck the rich while being borgozie yourself"
• "your just an edgy college liberal rich kid who thinks they are "winning" right now because your entire life is so empty dry and vapid you need something to feel good about the reality is your so weak pathetic and full of microplastocs and soy you could never amount to anything more than the borgozie"

But it's funny in there desperation you get a sense that you have to help people in specific ways, in specific mental state, and be a certain background.

So what's petty reason makes you a "bad person" for helping people or makes helping people"not count "?

I have been working with the Pensacola DSA chapter for about 2 months now and was given the same style of button twice and wore them on my chest to the Pensacola city council meeting.

I decided to act on my conviction of class solidarity. there was an outreach program to show up at the Pensacola city council meeting to stop "item 15" or to get a no vote. I did not research the topic for more than 30 minutes , I didn't know the person that reached out to the DSA chapter for help, and I lived two counties over.

I decided to test my principles, travel alone, go to a city that I'm not familiar with, ask questions to the staff about basic questions of council proceedings like I was literally clueless, and misinformed. the whole day that I spent was feeling like I was second guessing myself in varying intensity.

it did excite me that I get to be one extra body in a crowd, then one extra number that signed up for speaking, and then one extra voice speaking to the council. It was awesome to hear that 29 people (including me) signed up to speak on item 15.

the council was pretty entertaining because people were voicing there opinions both for and against Christmas drag show, and the clearly inspired passionate speeches of people that came up before me, helped me feel better about me going in front of the crowd to speak.

I haven't done public speaking in years and I did not practice my speech so I did think I flubbed words and I couldn't recite an entire sentence in my notes, but I at least got out that I'm from Destin Florida and I'm here to stand in solidarity with the working class of Pensacola. I did hear some clapping from the crowd, nowhere near much as what better speakers got. I was happy I spoke with and supported a very passionate and articulate members of the working class.

The working class of Pensacola did achieve a victory they got item 15 removed from the agenda (the council did not vote on it).

I figure out during the meeting that item 15 dealt with development of Baptist hospital land, the developer got the contract to develop the allegedly (as in I never confirmed it true) walled off NOLA(new Orleans, Louisiana) residence from their home and then bulldozed all there belongings and house in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina, the developer bribed the council members with Rolex and a trip to NOLA, and the council deliberated on who got the contract in a meeting that wasn't open to the public.

I had to do a lot bit of research on RF radio repeaters just to get an answer as to why there isn't a analog radio repeater that repeats in real time and one of it was that it would effectively increase the transmitted power above the legal limit and there would be "packet bumping". it explains the the meshtastic protocol has to be digital.

but im wondering why there isnt a setting that listens and retransmits on multiple frequency slots or one frequency slot and all modem setting. either of those setting would make using meshtastic easier to adopt.

I thought about being a "meshtastic pioneer" and in my head that means rebroadcasting on multiple frequency slots just so meshtastic user can connect without me independently having them to tell them what channel and modem preset I'm on. with my research it seems that there isn't 1 thing I can buy that can work on the entire US(915) band). im curious if anyone would recommend or has installed a radio repeator for meshtastic bands
