The rich pressuring the poor to donate money

Reply in thread

I used to work for a retail chain many years ago and I do not think this is true for everywhere.

When we were asking for donations it was tracked and if our location didn't get enough donations our store manager would get talked to by his district manager. I don't know exactly what happened to the money once it was donated, but I don't think they would have been so adamant about getting the donations if they didn't make anything from it.

This was like 20 years ago though, maybe its different now.

Spare a thought for Suleman Dawood, the 19 y/o scifi fan currently missing on the OceanGate Expeditions vessel

If those people are still alive I cannot imagine the nightmare they are going through. Being in a completely dark coffin 12,000ft under water with essentially total strangers waiting for death by suffocation is probably the worst way I can think of to die. Its right there with that guy that got trapped upside down in a cave. I hope it just imploded and they all went quickly.

Google distances itself from planned drag performance after employee petition

Reply in thread

I have been to multiple drag shows and they were quite explicit. I would say they were slightly less explicit than a burlesque show, The costumes and performances were somewhat akin to a strip show, but without the nudity. One thing that stands out to me was a trans woman in very small underwear who obviously hadn't had bottom surgery doing the sitting splits, there was definitely a wardrobe malfunction.

None of this really offended me, but I do wonder if the pushback from the right has to do with people seeing this type of drag show and not having anything else to compare it to.
