What is a belief you’ve done a total 180 on?

But aren't there things that you can objectively know to be true? Wouldn't this just lead to believing whatever you want to believe?

You say you were "intellectually honest" so I'm curious what it was about Zen that appealed to that kind of approach?

What is something you dont care to understand or "get"?
Not sure if I can think of any. I love understanding where people are coming from, and why they think something is interesting or important. That doesn't mean that I myself get into it, or share their opinion but I do like it when people are (happily) passionate about something and it's interesting to see what happens in their minds that makes it so. Like I don't care about sports, at all, but if someone is super excited to tell me about whatever sport they're into, I'll be happy to listen.
A bit harder if it's something they are angry about and think that I should be too - but I generally do understand why people work that way so I'll just draw a boundary if needed.
In general it can be tricky if people think that my interest in the mechanics of their interest must mean interest in the subject of their interest. But I suppose that's on me to be clearer about.
Interesting question.
Maybe the only thing that borders on something I don't care to get is straight up hate of anything one doesn't understand. It's just that I already sort of understand that but it's definitely not the angle of discussion I want to get into, it's usually just depressing.

Is it impolite to crosspost someone else's post to another community on Lemmy without saying anything?

Yeah of course if it's artwork or text, obviously then I'd make it explicitly clear it's not mine but I mean news articles, memes, things like that.

Yeah, it's great. I love how there's this... degeneration of the story the deeper it goes. More and more details get lost in every reiteration. Starts with the vibrant reality and every retelling kinda eats itself, leaving a bit less. Like Chinese Whispers, except about one's own life. It's really brilliant.
And actually it is kinda reflective of how memory really works.

Okay, thank you for explaining.
I admit I don't get it, but maybe I'll consider reading that book. It seems I had a mistaken idea about Buddhism. Or at least Zen Buddhism.

I mean like asking them if I can or adding a note like @user posted this on !community or something. Though it does show the crosspost already so maybe that covers it?

Lemmy – lacking tolerance and acceptance?

Sorry to interject, I just want to check if I'm understanding this sub-thread correctly. I was skimming and didn't immediately realize what you were talking about:
So someone asked what kind of discussion isn't tolerated.
You brought up people discussing wanting to cut down their personal porn consumption.
You get downvoted and people imply you're just some conservative wanting to preach about the evils of masturbation. Which is a complete mischaracterization of what you're saying.
I don't follow nofap discussions etc. as it's thankfully not a problem for me personally but I know porn and masturbation addictions are very real and detrimental to one's well-being. I'm a bit stunned to learn that you get this much flak for acknowledging it here. I'm sorry to hear this :/

Thanks! Yeah, I need to take cuttings and make those into new plants. They have a limited lifespan.

Wow.... I'm glad that one guy at least amended their first post but yeah... I am so sorry you get responses like this.
I hope find the support you need, and if at all possible, have the energy to keep bringing it up despite ignorant takes. Recovery’s possible, even when the internet is a minefield. Wishing you strength!

Yeah I was thinking that maybe it is absurd. The crosspost function is there for a reason. But I still felt unsure on if there is some netiquette that I'm unaware of.

I save some cool images I find. Pretty and colorful ones. Some people think I'm weird.
In this case I chose a photo off the internet though, off a cooking site. At least I hope it's a real cooking site. It's a pulla. Because I like pastries.
