They want an algorithm.

As much as people mock it, or know it’s the source of why social media optimizes for outrage and other unhealthy behaviors, the algorithm is what they are missing on Mastodon.

As someone who always used third party Twitter apps, and never directly saw the algorithm in my timeline, mastodon feels like Twitter always did.

‘Nudify’ Apps That Use AI to ‘Undress’ Women in Photos Are Soaring in Popularity

Sounds like someone needs to make a community for that.

Otherwise, this is what technology is these days. And I’d say that staying blind to things like this is what got us into many messes.

I remember when tech news was mostly a press release pipeline. And when I see these comments, I see people who want press releases about new tech to play with.

Now duplicate posts. Those can fuck right off.

Reddit kills awards and coins

Reply in thread

I thought awards were fine. Though I used Apollo, and it tastefully displayed them and never had giant highlight boxes around comments or any other adornment nonsense.

In smaller communities they had symbolic value. In massive ones it was kinda just noise. But like I said, not really an issue on Apollo.

The Lemmy VR Community Talks About Stuff

I’m another person who uses VR mostly for VRChat. I hang with friends, co-host a weekly movie night, and run/maintain The Great Pug. I host large parties for Halloween and St. Patrick’s Day. — If any lemmings would like to join the next event, or the Discord server, hit me up on Discord.

There’s a thing common to a lot of VRChat users in how they only play VRChat. It’s what VR is.

I have the original Beyond, and stick to PCVR. It’s where all the cool club spaces are too.

I also have a Vision Pro. And I use that mainly for watching movies and shows, and socializing with a close friend.

Right now, I’m looking forward to the day where VR feels less unfinished and janky. It surprises me just how Janky VR still is. And the jank is still present for a wide variety of reasons.
