The earliest surviving photo of the White House, 1846
Cool idea for a community. This pic reminds me of something I would see in one of t hose hand colored stereographs.

The thing I loved about the characters in the expanse is that they were well fleshed out and while events were happening I could think about how other characters will react to it when news reaches them. It still had plenty of space opera/political intrigue for me too.

I don't see many people recommending Ancillary Justice, but really enjoyed the series. I thought it was a pretty light read as far as Sci-fi goes, but it ticked all the right boxes for me.

Dune, The Expanse, Seveneves, Snow Crash, Hitchikers Guide, Ancillary Justice are all good ones off the top of my head. I really enjoyed reading Neal Stephenson's novels because they are so thoroughly researched as to be plausible.

in 10 years, we're going to say "remember when charcuterie boards were the fad?"
My gf has been into them lately.. it must be popular on TikTok 🤷

This is such an interesting and weird hobby to have. Thanks for taking the time to write up this explanation. I've always wondered how this was done. How did you get into cutting stones as a hobby? It seems like the barrier to entry is incredibly high.

What beans are you using?
My go to over the past few months has been camillia coffee roaster's ethereal blend. I've found it pretty forgiving of my evolving techniques and the flavor is great in amercano's to iced drinks. Rich with plenty of texture. would highly recommend

ID This Mushroom my Dog Tried to Eat, MA North of Boston
Looks kind of like an agaricus to me. Pretty hard to tell without gill and stipe shots. Ideally a sore print too. I'm no expert either haha.

yeah thats understandable. if only they weren't so damn cryptic haha. Sometimes you can get a good idea of the spores if you can see them on the ground under the mushroom or on the stipe sometimes. depends on how much airflow the caps get wherever they popped up though.

An 1859 History Book Says This Is The Devil’s Footprint
Great video. I liked how he connected it to other footprint bases folklore. I also thought it was funny the presenter did not look like a history nerd haha

How can I stop birds from flying into my windows?
Reply in thread
It's not necessarily the predator thing that scares them away. The most important part is breaking up the reflection on the outside. The anit-collision stickers will work well for this. Look on amazon or at a local hardware store, they come in many patterns and shapes, just pick one that you like. You can also hang a couple old CD's in front of your windows from fishing line. People do that where I'm at to scare off woodpeckers from their house and it should work for other birds too.

[NLD] Wurkkos TS10 Copper 3000K, Orange aux
I like the look of Cu lights and I have owned one, but I am just not careful enough with them to keep them looking the way I want. I know I know patina and all that but after a year my copper light was just kinda meh and dirty looking.

well compared to some of the really dense classic sci-fi I considered it a light read lol.

This does look like an actual eyeball. I could see this as an eye for some kind of D&D style construct. Very cool!

Very cool, glad you had someone to teach you this amazing art form. And thanks for sharing your creations with us all. Are there low value gems that you practice on before cutting more expensive ones? In your post you talked about refractive index of the gem itself, does that really vary between gem types enough to make certain gems react different to certain designs?
