I feel like there are almost as many “Stop talking about reddit” poets as there are reddit posts. Most of us JUST left after being there often for five or ten years. There are subreddits still actively protesting. Spez is still trying to spin a story that is contrary to our experience. There is still a lot to talk about but it will naturally die off. Maybe just scroll past the posts you don’t want to read?

I like how no one cares anymore about animal abuse as long as it’s not a dog or cat. I thought free range was supposed to be better than cage-free but turns out they both suck especially since the federal agencies responsible for investigating claims of animal abuse have been completely stripped of ANY power. I read an article a few months ago about a slaughterhouse near my hometown where an animal rights activist had taken an video showing cows being gutted WHILE STILL ALIVE AND CONSCIOUS because whatever the used to stun them wasn’t working properly. People just turn a blind eye to this and then go and mock vegans for whatever reason. I eat meat and I used to work with research animals where there was actual effort to reduce animal suffering. But clearly I need to be more selective about where I source my food. I don’t want to become a vegan but it’s becoming increasingly clear that given the state of regulations of the animal industry that is the only moral option (with maybe the exception of actually knowing and seeing where the product is coming from)

And not just a regular amicable breakup but one where you left after finding out the other person was actually a cold-hearted narcissist who only pretended to care about you and now they’re lying to everyone about how you were the horrible one. So it’s understandable to feel some schadenfreude for awhile.

I always thought it would be cool if awards meant something, like a donation to an NGO of the user’s choosing (from a list of 20 or so to reduce complexity). Lemmy could be one of the options but not the only option (like it was for Reddit) that the money would go to. I feel like more people would buy and give awards if that were the case.

If you live in a particularly hot or humid area it may be unavoidable. Options are to walk at a more leisurely pace or to just deal with it by wearing wicking fabrics on the walk and changing into your work clothes once you get to work.

Don’t know where to put this, but I I’ve been having issues finding communities that I know exist. But I found that searching in “posts” for a keyword instead of “communities” wil often take me to where I want to go. (For instance, searching for “lawn” brings up posts in the “nolawns” community I was looking for.)

As a temporary bandaid, it looks like every instance needs a sacrificial user/volunteer to subscribe to every community they can find.
