Probably because they grew up on the high seas, then found a more legal and convenient alternative, only to see it turn to shit. Old habits die hard.

Very happy and reminds me of the old pre-digg Reddit days! My main concerns are
If I pick a popular server it will go down due to performance issues, but if I get a smaller one it may go offline because it's just a small hobby project. I don't want to lose my account.
I'm worried about communities duplicating on other instances and me not being able to ask questions to the same pool of people with xposting

do you think the fediverse could replace popular social media

I agree but also, gates are open wide if you ask me. I'm missing some communities here and it's going to be a long time before there are enough users to make it a worthy replacement for Reddit.

Work around: upgrade to 0.0.35 and avoid crashing
I was really hoping 0.18 would make things better but now it has both the app and the website unstable.
Any timeline on 18.1?

Agree, the decentralisation will lead to smaller but possibly more tight knit communities.
There's pros and cons to this, depending on how niche the subject is.
I'll definitely stop using reddit on mobile though. Old reddit will be my go to.

Animal Rights Switzerland Sets Out Vision to Make the Country Vegan - vegconomist - the vegan business magazine
I went to switzerland last summer and lemme tell you, these guys love having cows absolutely ruin their country.
Only in switzerland will you be able to go on a 8 hour hike to a gorgeous mountain lake, only to find cows shitting all over the rivers and meadows, to the point you need to boil water for 5 minutes before it is safe to drink.

How many people actually dropped Reddit for Lemmy?
Recently discovered revanced could patch boost and I'm back on Reddit.
After a few months on just Lemmy, I found too much of the content was about Linux, foss, and how much the internet sucks now.
