The trust is gone and Unity will never be able to gain it back. The damage is done.

I also wonder if this is just playing out as planned by Unity. Try to push out a change that will piss people off by adding a more egregious change and then say "we hear you" and roll back to the change they wanted to push initially.

hardware: use TV as a monitor?

Depends on the TV. For gaming, it would be essential that it has some form of gaming/low latency mode.

Also, why would you pay extra for a "good" main board? That's literally the one thing where you can go cheap without a problem if you're not investing in the high-end segments of the other components.

As a sidenote: have you looked at something like a SteamDeck for your kid? It's a full fledged PC that you kid can hook up to the TV and if you want to watch something on it the kiddo can still use it with the build in display. the base model is also dirt cheap for what you get.

What light novel(s) have you read this week, and what do you think about it? [January 29. - February 04.]

The Retired Demon of the Maxed-Out Village: Volume 2 - Managed to finish this volume. I liked the first one well enough but this time it was a drag to read through. The series seems to follow an approach where it revolves around the story of a different visitor to the village in each volume. The visitor in this volume didn't do it for me at all. I really couldn't care less about whether she lived or died and that made it so sluggish to read. The people I wanted to read about were just set dressing with very little screen time (word time? page time?). I'm not sure if I continue this series. - 3/10

Looking for a good anime for me and my gf to watch

Want a really obscure recommendation: Yamada's First Time: B Gata H Kei which might sound really not like what you're looking for when reading the synopsis, but is actually a really solid rom-com that doesn't follow the cookie-cutter tropes. Well, it does but only to a degree.

Then there is Ore Monogatari!! which I consider being one of the most refreshing rom-coms since they don't spend all season on getting to the relationship but are developing that relationship instead.

Lastly, my favorite rom-com series is Working!! which is just perfection that got even better with each season.

Lightnovels releasing the next two weeks: (August 28. - September 3.)

There's not much coming out this week, but I'll use this to sell you all on Cooking With Wild Game since it's criminally underrated.

I always make the argument that it is, at its core very similar to Ascendance of a Bookworm:

  • Both have a slow progression.
  • Both have a low-stakes plot that starts very insignificant but creates larger and larger ripples as the story progresses
  • The core plot of both deals with a class divide
  • Both plots are intrinsically character-driven instead of event-driven like most other LN.

This series is in my top 3 spot (Bookworm and Tearmoon are #1 and #2) and I find it sad how little love the series gets.

Season 2 announced for Jidou Hanbaiki ni Umarekawatta Ore wa Meikyuu wo Samayou • Reborn as a Vending Machine, I Now Wander the Dungeon

Yes, I wish people would get off their high horse about it. It's easily one of the best non-human isekai novels and the anime adaptation was decent enough to not warrant all those "how high were they hur durr" and "peak anime oink oink" comments.

What I am surprised though is that a second season would most likely bring us past what is written in the source material.

What light novel(s) have you read this week, and what do you think about it? [January 8. - January 14.]

A Late-Start Tamer’s Laid-Back Life: Volume 8 - This time with penguins. I still feel a bit fatigued from the last copy and paste 4 times arc, but it looks like it's getting better. - 6/10

Ascendance of a Bookworm: Part 5 Avatar of a Goddess Volume 8 - Each and every volume is better than the last. I gave that incredible P5V7 an 11/10 and in all fairness, this one has to get a 12/10 now. I'm ready for a 13/10 volume next. Btw. is anyone else hyped to see Lessy animated by Studio WIT?

edit : The Diary of a Middle-Aged Sage’s Carefree Life in Another World: Volume 1 - Found the worst LN I've ever started to read. I'm only 2 chapters in but I can already tell that this really has no redeeming qualities. I can't imagine how a LN could even be any worse. Maybe if it bricked your tablet. Wow, this one is really terrible on so many levels that I can't even begin to list all the faults in the first two chapters. And right after reading Bookworm P5V8. Talk about whiplash.

Who's Your Oshi?

Gura for when she is streaming. Otherwise, I'm a sapling for the max comfiness.

But honestly I can find something good about each and every talent. Even the JP ones that I just know from translated clips. Cover really has a knack for selecting their vtubers.

What light novel(s) have you read this week, and what do you think about it? [October 2. - October 8]

Tearmoon Empire: Volume 10 - Ah what to say to this one... I love the series (it's actually my second favorite) and over the years I made several posts about the insane quality of the translation that managed to read at times like something out of a Prattchett novel. It was that good. Usually, I read those books in one uninterrupted sitting with a stupid grin never leaving my face. There was a different translator this time and somehow it lost something that made volumes 1-19 special. It's not a single thing I can point my finger at, but I found myself browsing the web between chapters or watching an anime here and there. It's still a funny series but it lost the wit that made it special. It's a really sad tale this one. - 7/10 depressed Swords

I May Be a Guild Receptionist, but I’ll Solo Any Boss to Clock Out on Time, Vol. 1 - Dropped after a couple chapters. To me, it was just boring to read. - 4/10 uninspired workers.

A Late-Start Tamer’s Laid-Back Life: Volume 7 - The series stays as fluffy and feel-good as ever but I'm starting to feel a bit formulaic. The opening of the 2nd to 4th areas just felt like a repeat of the 1st with only a new coat of paint. Now that the last of the four new areas has been opened I hope that the next volumes will have something fresh again. - 6/10 tamed monster armies

What novel(s) have you read this week, and what do you think about it? [Week 36]

Magic Stone Gourmet: Eating Magical Power Made Me the Strongest Volume 1 & 2 - Entirely average across the board and the second volume has some especially strange power creep jump that left me wondering what the author was thinking. It goes from fighting a small-time thug here and there to fighting a legendary calamity monster that destroys entire landmasses. No build-up whatsoever. - 5/10 pebble licking MCs.

Moon Blossom Asura: The Ruthless Reincarnated Mercenary Forms the Ultimate Army: Volume 1 - You know how everyone shat on Made in Abyss because the mangaka put his fetishes into the story? Now imagine that the fetishes were torture and rape of little kids, and you get this book. The only good thing I can say about it is that the group of mercenaries the books are following aren't your typical goody-two-shoes characters. Sadly the main psychopath lacks any depth whatsoever before she could have become interesting. - 2/10 eeeek eeeek eeeek Psycho score playing in the background

My Quiet Blacksmith Life in Another World: Volume 7 - I like this slow waifu of the volume approach of this series. This time with fairies! Didn't like that the pulled a Gotobun in the bonus story at the end though.- 7/10
