Lemmy about to implode.

jokes aside, it's just not a really attractive title.

I've played 48 hours in one of the games in there, Traveller's Rest, about running a tavern. It has money, supply, employees, trends etc. But I'm not enjoying it because Yay Capitalism! It's because when you're running your own cute shop with virtual money it's fun. I do like the genre, but being reminded of the systems that are causing a lot of real world shit is just a bad title.

But I guess "Business Sim Sale" wasn't flashy enough.

Summary of Reddit CEO u/spez' responses

"we're working on" "we’re not 100% sure we’re happy with" "could be interesting someday" "we haven’t figured out yet"

Maybe you should have figured all of this out before you asked for developers to pay absorbent amounts and shift more people on to your official apps?

I mean AI is already stealing all art and images on the web without paying anything. They could just literally scrape and pay nothing. Web scraping isn't illegal, they already do it, why would they pay anyone? Unless the law catches up about the rights to manufacture AI content based on ill-gotten data, then why would they pay what they don't have to?

I always like the soft clicks it made when communicating on the internet, after the screaming noise, when it settled down. Soft hum of the computer and little clicks as I read a forum post.

GitHub - rileynull/RedditLemmyImporter: 🔥 Anti-Reddit Aktion 🔥

I'd rather there be a dedicated instance to archiving subreddits rather than populate current communities with old stuff. (As in, probably could do this to more than just selfhosted) Read only, if lemmy even works that way, but federated so people on lemmy can link to it and read in app easily. We shouldn't let reddit hold the keys to useful historical information that has been gathered over the years, I feel it needs to be self-hosted and mirrored, but forging a new community culture I think is better than direct baggage from reddit.

Retiring House Republican says $174,000 isn't enough money for members of Congress: 'Most of us don't have wealth'

I have no type of economics experience, but what if representatives of a demographic of people should be paid the median wage of those people, with high punishment for corruption and bribes?

If they would like to earn more, they should lift their states's lowest wages. This goes down to all levels, a mayor of a city only earns the median wage of the city. It is a civil servant job after all, it shouldn't be glamorous.

FCC to declare AI-generated voices in robocalls illegal under existing law

They spoof numbers. It almost always is a number from my state or the area code, very rarely do I get calls from out of state and they are all already labeled "spam risk/telemarketer" when they come in.

Also thank you for writing this comment, I was going to say ios had no way to block unknown numbers, but I searched to double check myself and they finally do have that option! It may have been around for quite awhile, I hadn't checked for a long while.

The Lost Girls: ‘Chaotic and curious, women with ADHD all have missed red flags that haunt us’ (great article)

Reply in thread

I tried to get an ADHD diagnosis and my report came back with a mini-novel about how I was just a hysterical female with self-image issues I displayed as a way to garner praise and attention from those around me. My attention and focus problems were only because I just found the everyday stresses of life so difficult, being so fragile.

Any one who knew me felt disgusted reading it. But it's made me very hesitant in trying again to get a diagnosis.

What is something many people believe but is not true?

People believe that picking 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 as your lottery ticket numbers is insane, because that would have a insanely low/lucky chance of being picked like that. If all numbers are chosen randomly, it is the same chance. No matter any combination of any numbers chosen, 1 ticket has 1 in 13,983,816 chance of being the jackpot numbers. (For US Powerball, specifically)

"Labour Market"

Very vaguely related, I had a somewhat-friend in college who told me about her, her twin, and her year younger sister would fight constantly all the time. Imagine 3 close aged kindergardeners just constantly at each other's throats when you were really not ready. They were so fed up that they went into the kitchen placed the three of them in equal distances away from the center, and then gave them each a knife and said "Go! If you hate each other so much, kill each other!"

The all started sobbing and hugged each other, and got along a lot better after that.

That's...def trauma territory, but, it's an example that human instinct to divided resources (emotional attention from a parent is REQUIRED for children's psyche) isn't darwinian. America specifically touts Survival of The Fittest as THE default human psyche and I find that it's just not true.

📣 Apollo will close down on June 30th. Reddit’s recent decisions and actions have unfortunately made it impossible for Apollo to continue. Thank you so, so much for all the support over the years. ❤️

I don't know if the headings are what people actually said to him or not, but it's very sad to see him beat up about just trusting what people who he's had a fruitful 8 year relationship with say. The blame shouldn't be on him for being positive about what to him, had been a perfectly acceptable long-standing business relationship. The fact that he can eat this cost and said he'll be fine means that he wasn't simply being blind to the realities of the world/
