TIL that almost every year since 2015, Idaho children have died of treatable conditions. Their parents refuse medical care. It's legal in Idaho, the state just lets it happen.
How the hell is this not neglect?

‘A sucker born every minute’: The man who duped tourists with a fake Greek amphitheater
I like this, this is just so bizarre and just so stupid.
If he wouldn't built it on a protected woodland I would even had a chuckle.
Fake art, illegal construction and scamming people. His defense at court was funny also:
"his forgery was so obvious that nobody could have reasonably believed it to be true."

How big could a cell phone be before you refused to carry it?
I still have a laptop on me most of the time. So... at that point there is no reason for a phone being bigger than may laptop.

Depends, If you think Zoom calls same as phone - so conference and such is perfectly fine. Texting is just a short email/dm that you can take your time answering.
At that point it is just the matter of urgency.
A 15sec phone call don't need a laptop.
And before 2000s we were perfectly fine without those 15sec calls.

Just the sake of conversation: Phones and cell phones are really different.
A computer can be used as work phone - during work hours, and for that is perfectly fine. And it would drastically cut back on spam calls.
At home we had landlines and that was enough to call friends to make appointments and engagements. But these were more planning and not urgent things.
If you only look at the phone/digital leash aspect - then those mini phones in the early 2000 would suffice.
If you want the distraction machine aspect, I like to read on my phone and current sizing is fine for it. And for gaming... I think a handheld is better for that.

GTA 6 leaks prompt Take-Two to subpoena Microsoft for Windows device IDs of everyone in three Discord servers — daily gameplay leaks shatter cloud of secrecy around the much-hyped game
Attachment A asks Microsoft to return that identifier for every account that was a member of, or communicated with any of the three listed Discord servers between June 1, 2026 and the present, in addition to the three handles named in the filings.
I haven't looked in the directions of these servers... and I feel itchy.

GrapheneOS: We do plan to support Motorola's [future] Razr Fold and Razr Ultra (flip) devices in addition to a regular device.
An earlier tweet:
Initial focus for our partnership with Motorola is a regular non-folding device. Current generation Motorola Signature (2026), Razr Fold (2026) and Razr Ultra (2026) are very close to meeting our requirements but lack MTE, adequate secure element integration and other features being added for 2027.
So a regular non-folding one is kinda confirmed.

Swiss tourist sentenced to a year in jail for insulting Bali's sacred Day of Silence
I think it is expected from tourists to behave the way locals expect them to do. It seems this day required by law and even if it is a crappy law by outsider standards - it is still a local law...
You don't sneak out in North Korea and tell everyone about you ditching your escorts - you don't even think of smuggling drugs into certain countries. You don't start making loud fun about Muhammad in Islamic countries... And so on.

I like this new Chinese warfare. Releasing free AI models to undermine US firms, not letting US buy their rare earth minerals opening up a YouTube competitor.
These are all hurting the people wo are leeching the money out of the middle class, and making laws to keep 'em poor and stupid.
I'm not looking forward the upcoming economic crash, and the whole climate change thing happening.... But we all had it coming.

Being a tourist is not an exemption from local laws. That's why tourists got executed in some extreme cases before.
Do I think 1 year is too long? Yes. Do I think they deserve a punishment for being a criminal in the local sense? Also yes.

No that would mean no consequences for the criminal. If they just get away with a hand slap and a fee it means laws don't have a power over them and foreign money solves all problems.
Perfect way to turn yourself into a territory for plunder.
This act sends a message: do not disrespect our laws, don't come here and think you'll not be punished for your actions.

Maybe the interesting part: back in those days the sellers didn't provide any bags or baskets for the purchase.
Maybe she got the idea of how to carry more when all her bags were already full.
