Podman is great, but I only found it useful after learning quadlets and how to use podlet to generate quadlets (or quadlet pods) from dockerfiles. Now all my containers run with nice systemd commands in rootless podman containers instead of rooted dockerfiles (coz docker requires root unless you jump through hoops, when I started you couldn't). Quadlet syntax is so much cleaner than docker too.

Historically unpaid commute originated before urban sprawl, car culture and a massive spike in population, it's been grandfathered in, but it's absolutely theft in the current environment, whether the job can be done at home or not. Posit 1 hr commute either way, that's 10hrs a week, and should probably get hazard loading as well. When unpaid commute originated it was more like 10-15 minutes walk per day.

One of the most significant and efficient policy changes to combat CO2 and other pollutants would be to legislate paid commuting (with just protection against discrimination for both employee and employer). Dev work in the uBlue family (and yes I use bazzite for dev) leans heavily on distrobox (think development containers). Took a bit to adapt but now I think it's the ducks nuts. Because you decouple the dev environment from the main, immutable OS you get a lot of wins, especially if you work with a lot of different projects as you can setup distroboxes specifically for each. AI code that only works with specific drivers / libraries / python with instructions only for Ubuntu or Arch, no worries, make up a distrobox, when you're finished archive it and spin it up later if needed. If you're only working one project on say LTS or something it's going to be much less of a win, but for the flexible developer it's a godsend.

As to doom emacs or whatever, I have a post install script for distroboxes that sets up my preferred environment for the big 3 (Fedora, Arch, Ubuntu), it's not hard. Very much a kill your darlings philosophy.

ETA Because of this workflow it really doesn't matter what the host OS is, so it may as well be something I can game on, and I'm fond of the Fedora relative stability with sharp, but not bleeding edge.

The weight of 1 Liter (assuming a massive fart) of air is 1.275g according to wolfram, so, using your density numbers above, 1.275 * 1.06/1.2 = 1.126g lighter. Measurable with a really good scale, if the 90ml fart volume is realistic (has to be more realistic I guess), that's ~.1g,
