Wake Me Up When September Ends
Love reading these personal epilogues at the end of someones reddit journey. This is far better written than mine was. Well done and good luck finding your suitable alternative

What subscription finally gave you "subscription fatigue"?
Netflix. Price hikes with lesser content that no one in my house wants to watch. Subcriptions for occasional use stuff been purged since that.

Yep fair point. 'If its free, you're the product' etc. It did feel like that by the end.
Be interesting to see how decentralised it all stays as well. A lot of things want to centralise by nature so might come down to that. Everything snowballs after that

Gas boiler lobby trying to delay UK’s heat pump plans, leak shows
No matter the heat source. Step one needs to be insulating our homes to reduce the requirement for heating and make some work anyway. Especially heat pumps.
Why doesn't the UK gov have a clear strategy for this? Leaving it to the homeowner in a cost of living crisis and with increasing mortgage costs means the vast majority cant do it alone

What is the point of having a bot parrot everything that's posted on Reddit?
Seems fine to me. The news ones I'm subsrcibed to means I don't actually miss anything that I found reddit was useful for

Ofcom to investigate GB News and TalkTV over impartiality rules
We've some similar nefarious influences that would love our media to descend to the full depths of some of the American 'entertainment' news media. But were not quite there yet and its still a fringe atm.
So sitting politicians doing backdoor propaganda still isn't allowed by the watchdog.

Reddit CEO defiant as moderator strike shutters thousands of forums: 'We made a business decision that we’re not negotiating on'

I agree. I've left reddit and ended up here in the fediverse, i wouldn't use official app and hate adverts.
My wife, who's a regular lurker and occasional poster, uses official app and didn't even know any protest was happening as it didn't disturb her little corner. She and those groups will just carry on.
Plenty of us are done and out. But enough will stay for it to 'blow over' as well, as u say

Now its well established, like facebook, i think it'll just settle to a rump of users who want the convenience of downloading an app and just getting straight on.

UK installations of heat pumps 10 times lower than in France, report finds

My boilers on its last legs so had a bit research on HP etc. Would love to fully electricify and get rid of the gas. Basically i need to spend thousands upgrading my insulation etc 1st before i could even think of spending the fortune needed on the HP itself. I don't see how its doable without solar panels and a battery tbh.
In the end its worked out cheaper to install a wood stove in the front room as a stop gap as I get the money together to upgrade everything needed. Which tbh might never happen now all my cash has been drained away to nothing on energy bills and cost of living. Plus mortgage interest rates.
So my glorious vision of a more economical and eco friendly home has seen me turn medieval instead due to crippling finances

Do you genuinely feel its time/effort in the bin?
I know it will actually feel like a bereavement to some (not saying you specifically) but if it was all good at the time then was it not still worth it?
I'm sure reddit will continue for now, but with a lot less of use

You're completely right. These kind of actions is what it would take to make a difference.
Or even following up with the house insulation program we need to be doing anyway and bring back domestic solar incentives
