UFOs by Franco-American (1983)
I don't know if it flies, but it certainly looks like an unknown type of object. Was it really considered food? ;)

Free Software is an Abject Failure - paritybit.ca
I think, by now, it is accurate to say that Free Software is an abject failure.
Reading that post, I constantly felt that
Even though we’re in the age of serial-anathema, I try to not mix my personal opinion and my own emotions, regarding anything or anyone, with what that anything or that anyone actually is. So, I have no idea if this post is ‘abject’ or not but it is indeed making all it can to make sure readers like myself can’t trust it much. Which is a pity, as
Alas, the post is what it is and if most of the time I’m glad to have discussions on subject matters I’m interested in with people I most likely don't agree with, I'm not that interested in watching someone spat their hatred. And, after reading that post, I feel like I have wasted my time watching someone doing just that. I will be a lot more hesitant to click next time I see a link to this blog.
Edit: typos.

How can we help protect birds from cats?
Reply in thread
This has led nowhere so far and only created more tension between the public majority who unconditionally love and will protect cats at all costs (generalised as “cat mums") and the non-feline animal lovers (bird lovers in particular) who are all just lazily grouped into the “cat mum hater” category.
I'm a bird lover (and watcher) and I'm a cat person too.
The thing is that reading the tone of the OP one feels like here is one more of those trolls trying to overgeneralize and to over-categorize—cat = killer, and a rabid one with that— instead of actually trying to expose and discuss the issue. What's the point of such a post? To put more oil into the fire in order to get some cheapo giggle?

from the rabid feline killers?
Sure. I've also heard they do satanical rituals and that's a fact: the cousin of the neighbor of the postman once told that to my late grandmother.

Towards a more perfect schnoz (1920s, + surviving example)
The real sad part is in realizing people would still buy that crap nowadays. We're so much better educated than our naive ancestors and so well informed. They were so gullible, back then, right?
That being said, thx a lot for sharing, it's a neat addition to a growing collection of our most amazing achievements in the subtle art of milking people dry of their hard earned money.

OK, I'm now officially volunteering to be the first human being to be send to Mars. Even without a ticket back... even more so without one.

A lot (there are lot of ways to prepare them) and, watching the movie, I've taken copious notes on how to make them grow on the surface of Mars, worry not ;)

A quick shoutout to Mullvad
Mullvad are like a drop of hope in humanity in a sea of shitty and shady business practices.
Alas, VPNs are quite high on the endangered species. Largely thx to countless clueless, when they're not plain full dishonest and working in their very own interest, representatives doing their best to make our societies a much shittier place for the rest of us.

What's something you started doing arbitrarily that's been really positive for you?
Walking. Daily. That, and purchasing good shoes. It changed my life.
At first, I was in such a poor shape (physical and mental) I was barely able to walk more than a few steps, I was also severely ill and was expected to die quickly in not the most tranquil manner. Nowadays, I'm not dead :p, and I walk miles every day and I will do my best to go everywhere I can, walking. I'm still ill (it's not curable) but it's stabilized and I feel so much better.
I'm still not an athlete and I'm old enough to realize I'll never be one but I don't care: I'm in such a better shape! Both physically and mentally (I feel so much better in my head), my endurance is skyrocketing, and I've also lost so much weight I don't need to wear 'plus-sized' clothes anymore.
And it all started by making the first step, one small step. Literally ;)
Edit: clarifications.

Where is Linux not working well in your daily usage? Share your pain points as of 2026, so we can respectfully discuss
On my phone. I would love to be able to run a Linux system or at least a de-googled android. But some apps I need access to don't seem to be working without Google services and stuff like that si I'm stuck using a stock Google (Pixel) android.
Beside that, everything is and has been working smoothly on my computers since I switched from Apple to Linux Mint, 5 or 6 years ago. My only regret is to not have switched way earlier.
I do miss Spotlight. All the alternatives I have tested fall short one way or the other but giving up on Spotlight is not that bad of a deal considering all what Free Software, GNU and Linux have offered me in exchange. I would not want to switch back.
