It’s really sad that the stupidity and greed of a few triggered the disappearance of a huge amount of common knowledge and references. Sure there were memes, and porn and other things, but there were also subs with huge conversations about technical specialties and solutions to problems. All this will disappear. It’s really sad.

Two of the biggest Reddit communities reopened in the funniest way possible

Reply in thread

Lowering the quality of the content means that sure they’ll get a surge of viewers to see the ruins, but then people will leave sure to the lack of valuable content. This is the idea behind it. If Reddit is forcing to stop the blackout, the removing the content value is the next thing. Sure you can boycott, but the amount of people that land on a Reddit page from a SEO or don’t know/care about the blackout are still significant. If those people have no reason to get to a Reddit page then the damage to Reddit becomes critical.

I read he said the whole Reddit Blackout will just blow over in a few days. It feels like he has a complete disconnect with the community… even the investors are unhappy. What I don’t understand is why there isn’t a vote to get him out?

Hollywood actors announce strike in first joint action with writers in 60 years

Reply in thread

@WarmSoda That’s totally in line with what we’re seeing this year. Work (I’m a camera operator Local600) has been remarkably slow, or completely stopped successfully January. Their goal was to strike us before the strike, knowing that most of us have not be able to fully recover from COVID and already have used our rainy day funds. It’s amazing how destructive sociopaths can be when in powerful positions.

YSK about compression

Reply in thread

If it’s VBR, either two things can happen, the compression esteems the noise can be averaged to a solid gray background, and the bit rate will be very low to just display a solid gray card, or it deems each pixel worthy of staying distinct, which forces the compression to drop and will raise the bit rate to the maximum.

Feature request: Hide voted posts

I was reading a post, closed the app and the post disappeared. I kept looking for it and realized I had the hide option on. Maybe we could add something to signify a post was hidden in this post. Maybe a set of post separator lines with … in the middle. You could even tap the dots to expand the comments back up? Just an idea. @EnglishMobster
