I don't disagree with Mr Beast being a scammer and abuser, and I also don't disagree with a domain not being untrustworthy just because it's a .com domain.
That being said, I should point out that the news/media isn't exactly reliable. NBC is no exception. Even if the article is true (which it most likely is), I wouldn't blame someone for not trusting NBC.
