The Tech Giant opposed the Demands – The Swedish Transport Administration signed anyway
Let's hope they start to look into alternatives so they are ready to switch when this contract ends.

These wonderful people are behind LibreOffice, offering a free alternative to Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel. Remarkably, most of them contribute on a completely unpaid volunteer basis

+1 on Linux Mint. Some people don't like that it is based on Ubuntu, but I think Mint is a good repo for someone moving from Windows. I help my parents to install Mint on their computer when Windows 10 reached EoL and they have not complained yet.
I would also like to add that it is a good idea to create a live boot in order to check that speakers, wifi, printers etc. works on your computer before installing it. Note that it will be slower since it is running from the USB stick.

Microsoft built a dedicated app that forces Bing everywhere on Windows 11, including Chrome, Firefox, and Brave

The it department is blocking almost everything in my company. They even remove some older python and java versions which is needed to support our old software. I will not even try to download the Debian installation image. But I hope other companies are less restrictive.

Hopefully it is not installed on windows 11 enterprise, it's not like we can change what OS the companies are using.

Namninsamling från järnvägsfacket om att förstatliga järnvägen
Reply in thread

Swedish pension giant Alecta sold ~$8-9 billion in US government bonds
Alecta is one of the big private pension fund companies in Sweden, they are investing money for millions of Swedes. Hopefully they choose to invest the money in European companies instead.

RAM is so expensive, Samsung won't even sell it to Samsung
Reply in thread
I regret so much that I didn't, I was planning to build a new PC now or in the beginning of next year. But with the current RAM prices I will stick to my 5 years old AMD 5600x. I will have to start playing games in my backlog if the framerate in new games becomes too low.

Linux For Your Grandma - A Linux guide for those that are not super techy
I looked on the topics of the video and all of them make sense. However, I think the biggest problem for average persons is that they don't care enough to watch a video that is 80 minutes long (if they even find it). Also, I'm not sure if video is the correct format since I prefer text and some pictures. But I'm not an average user :) for a grandma a video might be better, I don't know.
For feedback of the video itself, the parts where you show Cinnamon, Gnome and KDE could benefit from showing the screen more and how to navigate in the OS. If I try to imagine how an elderly person would feel about changing OS to Linux from using Windows for decades then I'm not sure watching does short glimpses would convince them that they can handle it.
Sorry if it sounds harsh, I'm trying to give constructive feedback. I think it is a nice initiative and from what I saw the topics are well chosen and you speak slowly and clearly.

2 in 3 Americans say U.S. democracy is in danger of failing
They are right, the democracy in USA is decreasing rapidly and is back at 1960s level now according to the latest V-Dem report
The scale and speed of autocratization under the Trump administration are unprecedented in modern times. Within one year, the USA’s LDI score has declined by 24%; its world rank dropped from 20th to 51st place out of 179 nations

Post your deletions
I have not deleted so many apps and accounts, but I have stopped using them or reduced the usage.
Windows 10 -> Linux but Windows 10 is still installed on another disk so technically it is dual boot even if I have not used Windows for months.
Office -> Libre office
Gmail and Hotmail -> Protonmail and Posteo
Google maps -> Here maps and Comaps
Onenote -> Notesnook

France quietly deployed 100,000+ Linux machines in their police force - GendBuntu is a silent EU tech success story
Nice! Hopefully their experience can be used to help other agencies to move to Linux and open-source software. It also shows how long time it takes to move for a big organisation, in 2018 it was 82% of the PC workstations that was running GendBuntu.

Chat Control 2.0 has passed the first round of approval
Reply in thread
They can't, but that is not the purpose. If the chat control passes then all big services will be forced to leave EU or build in a backdoor. That will give them control over more than 90 % of the population and satisfies their goal. You and your friends are a rounding error. And if you would perform a crime, or are suspected of one, they can use the fact that you encrypt your messages against you.

Marco Rubio bans Calibri font at State Department for being too DEI
Reply in thread
My local news site wrote that they changed back to times new roman because the calibri font was developed for people who had difficulties to read (like dyslexia I assume), thus DEI and the current administration has to change it back.

That's because they have to. If I remember correctly it is supposed to be as easy to reject as to accept, but until it has been judged in a court it is "unknown" what the sites can or should do.
