Why don't the democratic voters actually riot over Trump and Musk instead of writing nice words on a Musk-owned social media?

Reply in thread

This is 100% correct.

Also don’t discount the economic system working as intended. If I get off the hamster wheel to “riot,” my family quickly loses basic necessities.

Once my best alternative to a negotiated resolution moves off that reality (meaning keep my head down and my family will get through this) more options become available. The system is designed to keep a critical majority on the wheel.

What's the endgame when the rich have all the money?

I don’t think you can think of it as some sort of logical plan. It’s a bug, not a feature, of capitalism. What you are describing is the inevitable end of a completely free market with no regulation. The strong (economically) keep taking from the weak until we have the situation you are describing. From there the next step is dependent upon whether the weak form a cohesive identity and seize power (revolution) or stay fractured around smaller identity cleavages (race, religion, gender, etc) and are subjugated.

Trump exempts smartphones from reciprocal tariffs after market rout

Reply in thread

I’m glad you cleared up being against his tariffs. What about his sexism?

So much going on in this comment. What does being a “real man” or a “menstruating woman” have to do with having courage in your convictions?

Maybe I’m missing subtle irony? I get it that this is traditional republican language. But this reads like an affirmation of these gender stereotypes.

I think there are better ways of illustrating republican cognitive dissonance than parroting it in your critique of them.

Watch The Murder of Fred Hampton, and tell me how it’s not currently being done by those in power.

I love your naivety where you think that just because they don’t kill you or your loved ones, because you’re (likely) part of the accepted group, it’s ok to ignore the fact that they kill all the people you don’t care to think about.

(I have no idea who you are. I just think the counter point to your point is equally valid and deserves consideration)

Hannah Arendt

This is why there is a push to end fact checking on the internet. It’s not about a free press any longer. The internet briefly broke the capitalist stranglehold on the dissemination of information. Somewhere along the way the ruling class realized it was easier to break the internet rather than control it.

AI will train on unverified claims and further “flood the zone” so that it becomes increasingly difficult to know what is and isn’t. Eventually it won’t matter if someone “brings the receipts” to back up their claims because there will be support for every conclusion.

Local IRL community networks linked together through regional and national verified connections will be the only way to truly know what is going on. This becomes increasingly difficult to do as more and more waking hours need to be devoted to earning a wage to trade for basic necessities.

We are all waiting for the revolution not realizing we have been losing a war the whole time.

What is jury nullification and what does it mean for Luigi Mangione’s defense?

Reply in thread

Did you read the article? From the article:

Jury nullification is the term for when a jury declines to convict a defendant despite overwhelming evidence of guilt. This can be a form of civil disobedience, a political statement against a specific law, or a show of empathy and support to the defendant.>

from NY Courts - Criminal Trial

In a jury trial, after all the testimony has been heard and all the evidence has been presented, the Jury is given instructions on the law by the Judge. The jury then goes to the jury room to deliberate, which means to look at and review all the evidence and testimony. The jury tries to make a decision on whether the defendant is guilty or innocent, which is called reaching a verdict. The verdict must be unanimous, meaning every juror must agree on the verdict. If they can’t all agree, this is called a hung jury, and the Judge will have to declare a mistrial. A mistrial does not mean that the case is over. After a mistrial, the prosecutor can choose to try the case again.>

That means as long as one juror refuses to give in to pressure to convict they can nullify. They don’t need 12. In other words jury nullification <> being found not guilty
