We don't deserve cats

Reply in thread

This is very true. I had a cat that recently passed away at 17. While I've had cats my entire life, none had an attachment like this one. It followed commands and would dote around me like a dog. He would even get upset if I gave other cats more attention than him. So naturally we bonded more since it was easier to bond with this cat as he sought attention. So there was a cycle of him paying attention to me so I paid attention to him. Now I want to be clear, my other cats also loved me very much, but this was different.

So when it was his time, it was one of the saddest things I ever experienced. Other cats when they passed away would try to hide, apparently this is a natural instinct to protect their families from disease and predators when they leave a corpse. But not this cat. All he wanted was to be by my side as he was passing away. It was clear he knew and would meow when he couldn't find me, which was largely because he couldn't really move since he was dying. When the vet came to put him down, his last action was to look around the room to make sure the whole family was there, then he rested his head and waited for his end. That was heart breaking. His love for me and our family was so great that he went against his own base instincts, I have never seen that before.

You know what, fuck it, I would love to be their pet. I'm not even talking in a sexual manner. Think about how we humans treat pets. I don't like working and suffering through life. Why would I not want an ancient creature to take care of all my needs while I sloth around and do nothing. God, ancient creatures, take me as your beloved pet!

Putin seizes $100m from Google to fund Russia’s war machine (in 2020)

Reply in thread

Aaaand... we're upvoting comments of people that obviously have not read the article.

New court documents filed in the US shows that Russian authorities “seized” Google’s money from their bank account in Moscow in 2022 around the time Putin invaded Ukraine.

This happened at the time of the initial invasion and this article is just talking about the lawsuit over it.

So, unless your trying to imply that Google should have been able to see the future, your comment is inappropriate. I only point this out because you're so highly voted up and are clearly spreading misinformation.

K-pop star apologises to angry fans for having a boyfriend

Reply in thread

Yes, but this is happening in the states too yet we don't have this kind of insanity. For example, onlyfans is basically a website dedicated to monetizing incels. But there's an implicit understanding that those actresses have their own lives. For some reason, in S.Korea they're not allowed to have their own lives. It's bizarre no matter how you look at it.

Tell me more, Mr. Sauron

What's crazy to me is Putin had such an opportune chance to control the narrative and try to pull the far right to his side. He could have done this by speaking to anti-LGBTQ stuff or talk about traditional families. But instead he spent his time talking about a perverse Russian history that some how blames Poland for Hitler's aggression.

Putin had a chance to control the narrative, but instead ranted on like a crazy old man. So win for the west, but what a strange story.

White Rural Trump Supporters Are a Threat to Democracy

The funny thing is the electoral college was designed to counter exactly this event. In the case an absolute tyrant is going to get voted in, the electoral college is supposed to be the last chance to challenge it. But with the way the GOP is going, ain't no one gonna challenge anything.

As they say, the devil will come bearing a cross wrapped in the American flag.

Old Dry Rule

Reply in thread

Actually sort of. I mean I guess what you would call a soup. Though the Chinese would just consider that a sauce. The put that shit on everything. Well different sauces. Here's a random picture of a Chinese school lunch.

https://whatsforschoollunch.blogspot.com/2009/08/china-school-lunch-fish-and-vegetables.html

You see how the veggies are glistening? They're covered in a sauce made with cornstarch and broth. Even the fish has a layer of sauce on it.

So yeah, a sandwich would be pretty dry. But that's not really what they're talking about.

In Chinese food, there's an insane amount of seasonings that basically go in everything. At a minimum they use something called 5 spice which is a mixture of you guessed it, 5 spices. So the dry they're referring to is actually seasoning. So something like a subway sandwich with italian dressing, salt, pepper and oregano wouldn't be dry in the way they're using it. They're really just referring to the sandwich being unseasoned. Also, here's a tip, if you're going to make a sandwich, season it. Even just adding salt and pepper will make it taste way better.

‘He’s underwater on everything:’ Fox News host breaks down Trump approval polling

Reply in thread

I mean depends on how you look at it. In many ways, the world NEEDS to get off it's dollar addiction. Having a hegemonic currency isn't great for humanity as a whole. And Trump is doing the very best I've ever seen at helping the world cure itself of this problem. Not great for USA, but an important step for how geopolitics will work moving forward. Unless you meant doing everything wrong for Americans, then yes, Trump is awful.

It might not be sustainable for USA, but China is doing just fine. Their stock market is flatlining and they expect growth to drop 2.2% to 3% growth. Not great, but definitely sustainable. That seems to be a big problem for US negotiations.

Working remotely

This is just a poor translation. It's a colloquialism to say you're jacking off when you're lazy and doing nothing. In fact, it's the same colloquialism in English. We literally say the exactly same thing when we call someone useless. What's really interesting in my opinion is you already know this. Yet because it's from a translation and you know that, your brain didn't think about the colloquialisms. It's kind of crazy how our brains work.

In 2023 fentanyl overdoses ravaged the U.S. and fueled a new culture war fight

Reply in thread

As insane as this is, fentanyl has surpassed alcohol deaths.

https://drugabusestatistics.org/alcohol-related-deaths/#:~:text=95%2C000%20Americans%20die%20from%20alcohol-related%20causes%20annually%3B%2068%2C000,health%20consequences%20of%20drinking%20too%20much%20over%20time.

And alcohol is massively damaging. Just want to put that in perspective. So I guess booze up cause alcoholics have to catch up?
