ASUS is apparently killing the ability to root present and future Zenfone, Updated

A typical example of planned obsolescence what an effective way of killing my plans to get an Asus phone as my next daily driver assuming this is true

Some important context from the article:

A Reddit user claims that the company’s developer liaison on its Telegram channel has no knowledge of any such development. “According to them, the unlock tool server is in maintenance and will resume in Q3,” the person writes; We’ve written to ASUS to clarify the situation and will update this article when and if we hear more.

But here is the thing why do I need to use a tool to connect to a server just to be allowed to unlock the bootloader? I don't and didn't need such a thing to unlock the bootloader of my Samsung Galaxy phone (planned obsolescence ladies and gentlemen)

What should I change?

In my honest opinion? Nothing. There is nothing worth changing here, all the other advice is just different kinds of extreme.

based on your selection and the fact that you asked this question is good a indicator that any other alternative people would suggest won't do you that much benefit while carrying a much higher chance of being highly inconvenient.

Not just the Galaxy S5, go open GSMArena's phone finder and filter the results by form factor to "bar", IP certificate to IPx7 and IPx8, and finally the battery to removable, 97 phones if you gonna include non-Android phones

And also one little thing, can you all please stop using the wrong word, it is water resistance not waterproof

Reddit is taking control of large subreddits that are still protesting its API changes

I doubt these protests will change Reddit management's mind on things, what did these protests change so far? AFAIK nothing, the best thing to do is to migrate to an alternative platform and delete your account and recommend the subscribers to do the same while keeping the subreddit private

Nothing will be as effective as deleting your account and migrating to an alternative platform.
