Hours-long wait for hundreds on motorway defended after fatal crash

There's a question I have about incidents like this.

If the road is closed, and will be for a matter of hours as the crash analysis process is worked through, why isn't there a procedure to get stuck vehicles off the motorway, by allowing them to turn around and drive up the on ramp?

Five hours is an appalling amount of time to be stuck.

'Atrocious': Wellington's deputy mayor slams $600,000 bill for library website

https://www.tematapihi.govt.nz/ is the website.

I've had a quick poke around, lots of animations that are slow to load, very flashy website, doesn't seem very well adapted to mobile. Pretty annoying to navigate, to be honest.

Compulsory voting has boosted turnout in Australia – is it time NZ tried it?

I'd love to know what others think about this. My view is it's already very easy to cast a vote, as easy as we can realistically make it, and we should be asking ourselves why fifteen percent of the population don't bother to vote, rather than forcing them to do so.

Winston Peters' release of Iran war emails 'no mistake', former Foreign Minister Phil Goff

Mark my words, Winston has seen which way the wind is blowing, and is preparing for the possibility of a coalition government with Labour.

Which is not necessarily a bad thing, NZF vs Maori as a coalition partner is an easy choice to make.

Labour's fuel maths on GST 'doesn't work out' - Luxon

A really good explanation about how an increase in GST collected on fuel is likely to be offset by a decrease in spending elsewhere.

Also, we're likely to see a change in behaviour from consumers, likely a decrease in non essential driving. I know I'm considering the driving I do a lot more carefully.
