The TSA will use facial recognition in over 400 airports
I just rewatched Minority Report a couple weeks ago for some reason. There was this scene where Tom Cruise had to get a new set of eyes because he got automatically identified everywhere. Everyone in the movie was constantly bombarded with personalized ads everywhere they went.. That movie is over 20 years old and they knew exactly what was coming. Fucking scary shit...

Elon Musk can't keep Tesla's landmark pay package worth more than $55 billion
This whole thing is a perverted joke about our corrupted society. Billionaires drag each other to court over who gets to be even more of a billionaire while people working 2 jobs in that same fucking country can't make rent.
Redistribute those billions among the Tesla workers who actually did the work for fucks sake.

(Located in Germany) Finally got the dreaded lawfirm Letter demanding 900€ for a John Wick torrent I accidentally left running. best course of action?
I got one of those years ago and never replied. Never heard back again.
A friend got one some time after that. He got scared and got a lawyer. He phrased a response letter with a reduced payment. He explained to me, that the phrasing is very important. You cannot under any circumstance show guilt for the alleged infringement, because then they come back with a vengeance (demands in the thousands of €). Paying the 900€ would already equate an admission of guilt.

When I finally switched from windows to linux a year ago, I read about timeshift and how it is basically windows restore points. So I installed it and played around with it but didn't really get it so I wanted to remove it. At that point I didn't really understand what symlinks are, and I just thought timeshift is just crappy bloatware that dumped a bunch of unecessary shit on my drive. So I sudo deleted that shit. Turns out that was a bad idea. That's the story how I nuked my first linux install.

Dude, you're basically part of the first wave of the Reddimigration. What was your expectation? You either need to be patient or even better, be the change you wanna see and start those communities yourself.

UK surgeon who described Gaza ‘massacre’ denied entry to France | The Guardian
Germany is so incredibly scared to be associated with antisemitism since WW2, they're willing to obfuscate and support the genocide of an entire nation. This is beyond despicable.

Everyone without exception has had moments of weakness where they lashed out at something or someone wrongfully. That's a bad deed but that can't be the definition of a bad person.
Especially in this context. The dude isn't really attacking the dev directly. He actually might just be venting. I wouldn't do that like that but you really can't assume anything from such a short exchange.

Standard tactic since the early 2000s. Provide a service for next to nothing by dumping insane amounts of cash into it. Competition either can't hold up or is straight up bought up. Fast forward 5 years and you're the only real player left. Then you're a monopoly and can set the prices as you see fit. Best example of this is uber, but amazon and youtube have done it too

In a sly move, Microsoft has removed the online help page that shows how to switch to a local account on its Windows 11 operating system.
To the surprise of no one, it's just a matter of time until local accounts in personal windows editions are removed entirely.

I am looking for a privacy respecting android tv box/stick
It just doesn't exist. You will need some kind of mini PC like Raspberry Pi. I Use a mini PC from Beelink.
If you just want a media station with some basic apps a Raspi with LibreELEC is perfect. Your TV remote will work out of the box and there are plugins for Netflix, Disney, etc... available.
If you want a little more, like a working browser and / or some light gaming I would suggest a full OS with a little beefier PC like the ones available at Beelink.
