Legitimate interest?

Legitimate interest is a way for the vendors to not need your confirmation. In general, your right to privacy is valued against the vendor's right to operate. The most often used example is advertisement: in general, vendors are allowed to advertise, as they want to operate and sell their products. But you have a right to your data (e.g. mail adress, home adress, interests...). So courts have to value what is more important. Another example that most people would agree is that clubs want to show what happens in the club, so they publish pictures from their activities (interest of club to show they are active vs personal right to your image). As not every case goes to court, most vendors see their interest as more important and interpret "legitimate" interest rather loosely. So in general, the idea of legitimate interest is compliant with the GDPR, although I believe most sites use it too liberal.

Guys is this actually true?

Reply in thread

I have you tagged as "researches before blindly commenting", thank you for staying true to that and the information.

I think the anti-AI protest should not focus so much on one issue, the water consumption was something that often filled my feed. This comparison to beef is kinda weird and ill-intended, as it takes the worst part (the biggest number) of one and compares it to datacenters saying "see, it does not matter, there are worse things". In my opinion the discussion should be more about "do we even want datacenters including all the risks and problems coming with them". And as you nicely put, there are more disadvantages with that and we should be careful.

SilverBullet v2 released: open-source, self hosted, programmable notes

Reply in thread

It is. The differece is that Silverbullet is self-hosted and not in app like Obsidian. The basics are the same, Obsidian has a way bigger community and more plugins, Silverbullet is easier to extend due to using Lua. Lastly, Silverbullet has queries built in, in Obsidian you have to use Dataview. If you need a markdown-based note storing system Silverbullet is great. Obsidian has more bling and customizability, but is not self-hostable.

AI-Generated George Carlin Drops Comedy Special That Daughter Speaks Out Against: ‘No Machine Will Ever Replace His Genius’

A notable exception would be Robert Jordan and his Wheel of Time series. He prepared notes so someone could finish the work and his widow picked Brandon Sanderson to finish the series. But I think it feels easier to milk it than to be thoughtful with the life's work of someone, as this requires a lot "would he have liked it" and to know this you would have to start caring early.

They managed to write so many quips in the show that portrays the characters well. The exchange between Mal and Jayne at the end as well.

"Why didn't you take the offer?"

"The moneg was not good enough."

"What will happen if it is someday?"

"We will see, this will be a very interesting day."

in like 4 lines you get to know their working relationship and also get a glimpse of how much Mal knows and deduces.

Union will beim Deutschlandticket nun doch zustimmen

Laboratory note book for my new research group

The group I did my PhD in used eLabFTW after I was gone. I heard only positive things and am trying to implement it in my current job (can not really selfhost as the IT department does all services). It should have a system to log experiments as well as have basic (maybe even more) inventory management. As far as I remember it dous not need any "big" hardware, so just using an older computer with a good backup strategy should work fine.

It fits well for me. I set up multiple queries in my daily note template to catch tasks that are due today or I wanted to work on today, for long-term tasks and for overdue tasks. You can group tasks by adding tags which I use often. You can add a new task anywhere in your notes and it will show up in the query. So I put tasks in all notes that I am working on and will be reminded of them in my daily note. It is often updated with new features, just try it out and see if it works for you. I can not complain and only recommend it.
