TV/MA 'High School' teen drama shows should be set in college and centered around young adults or adults.

Kids in my school were absolutely clubbing drinking, hooking up, doing drugs, getting pregnant etc. at 15 or 16.

I never said that they didn't, but TV will glamorize it and make it look "cool" and "edgy" and romanticize it when it's really not. There are teens who dated their high school teachers and got married, but just because this happens doesn't mean we should romanticize this relationship on the screen.

Could a superhero story about a young person who comes from a rich family (my character and his family are people of color or mixed race) be interesting?

you see their wealth as an easy way to get around story telling hurdles

An excuse for me to draw nice mansions, exotic cars and locations. His family is actually alive, and so it's about him juggling his double life between being a superhero and doing "high society" stuff. All of his love interests come from wealthy families, so sometimes he's not there for their parties, events or galas due to superhero stuff.

“young adults or adults” seems to imply young adults are not adults, which they are

I know I'm saying younger adults or maybe slightly older adults, like the youngest being 21 and the oldest being 25 or something. If you want the characters to be in close proximity with each other and still have this school dynamic, then college is perfect; there are people in their late 20s or early 30s getting their PhDs in these teen dramas. The writers never actually show the awkwardness of high school; they only want to show them talking, acting and doing adult things but never really show the consequences or have teens realise maybe they are too young for this. If you want a show where the characters look, act, and do things 21-year-olds do with little to no consequences and no adults even asking the slightest of questions, then just make them 21 and in college.

You do have to explain why not though

Ok, for context, his parents aren't shitty, unlike Succession. The family is mostly chill. His sisters aren't mean and bitchy; his dad might be emotionally distant, but he still loves his kids, but his mother loves him more than anything, and he loves his siblings. Even if in the story I put it where they are corrupt or maybe working with one of the villains, the parents still love their kids and want their kids out of danger. Even Darth Vader loved Luke.

I never said his parents were shitty; the guy I was responding to assumed that.

But to answer your question, people have choices. Just because your parents are shitty people doesn't mean you are going to be a shitty person. Just because your parents are good and loving doesn't mean you won't grow up to become an asshole.

There are a bunch of liberals/Democrats whose parents were hardcore conservatives.

People have choices, and just because you have past trauma doesn't give you a free pass to do horrible shit.

If you didn’t do these things in high school, that’s a skill issue

I didn't say kids didn't do these things. I said Hollywood shouldn't romanticise it or glorify it.

Do you think it's okay for minors to do drugs, drink and have sex with adults? Do you think? Parents are "villains" for justifribaly saying "your a minor this isn't ok"?

How old do you think this character is?

Reply in thread

No hes not lol But to answer your question, my main character is 21 at the start of the story when they become a superhero, but the real exciting stories come in "Year Two" when my character is 23 years old.

I made them 21 because his love interest is 10 years older than them, and the story is supposed to be about love and grief and an innocent man or woman dying, which motivated them to be a superhero. If my character is 15 dating a 31-year-old, the entire theme of justice and love gets completely undercut because they are a child predator. As weird as the age gap might be, my character is an adult when they meet.

Dexter Morgan would be found not guilty in real life

Reply in thread

he has killed many people.

150 people, to be exact, and they are all guilty of some crime. The innocent people who did die around Dexter weren't killed by Dexter directly; other people killed them without Dexter knowing about it. So again, with how much support Luigi gets, Dexter would also get support. He kills bad people, so the jury would likely find him not guilty.

"Frank sets out to deal with people be deems bad,"

So did Luigi...

There just seems to be a lack of believable trauma needed for a superhero origin.

You seem to not like superheroes, which makes me wonder why you even replied to my post. But to answer your question, my character is traumatized. His girlfriend was murdered, and that’s more traumatic than anything in the world. Also, just because his parents might be shitty doesn’t mean he is.

" and superheroes too for that matter."

Again, you don't like or understand superheroes; you aren't even a casual fan, so why respond to my post?
