Salyersville's First EV Chargers (That I Know Of)

We're a county of something like 12k people and the city only has a population of something like 1,500, but behind the subway in town now we're getting our first EV chargers. With it costing me over $60 to fill up my V-6 Dodge Journey earlier, the thought has crossed my mind more than once to get one since 90% of our driving is within a 30 mile radius of home except on the odd occasion we run over to Princeton and Providence to visit in-laws.

Witches and Warlocks Are Real, Apparently...

Today I stopped to grab replacement frames for my daughter's glasses. The lady asked about my daughter's name (Hermione).

Me: Like the girl from Harry Potter.

Clerk: Oh I've never seen those movies, I don't believe in the witches and warlocks and such.

Me, jokingly: Well it's all make believe, nobody actually thinks that witches or warlocks are real.

She then informed me that they are indeed real and she's a member of a missionary group who "casts them out" all the time...

This is a fully grown (looked to be 45-50ish) adult woman, who is allowed to vote and reproduce, who straight up believes that magic, witches and warlocks are real, and not only that, she is a member of a larger organization of people who go out on "missions" to "cast out" these evildoers. And she works in a business where she holds at least some authority over an aspect of peoples' health and well being.

The crazier thing is, she's not the first person in this area I've met who thinks witches and warlocks are real life people out there casting spells and shit.

And that is why Trump won re-election.

Edit for clarification: Around here when somebody says they "don't believe" in a thing, specifically in this context, what they mean is they "don't support" that thing. I've also heard people say they "don't believe" in guns, despite them being very real. What they mean is, they don't "support" a thing, not that they literally don't believe it's real.

TIL You Can Be Silently Shadow Banned on Reddit

Basically what the title says. I commented on a post and sent a link to my comment to my wife to get her take on the post and my response. To start, the link just takes her to the topic and not my comment. If she tries to find my comment it isn't listed. If she manually goes to my profile and tracks down the comment all it says is "[Removed]". However, from my perspective the comment is still live with 1 view and no activity. I've tried closing my browser, refreshing the page and everything and for me the comment is still visible even on the page for the post. For everybody else though it has been removed.

The crazy thing is the comment isn't even controversial; somebody asked for marriage advice and I gave some. The "removal" seems to be automated too because I sent her the link basically as soon as I posted the comment and it was already shadow banned.

The Mountain Parkway Expansion Has Destroyed the Old Ivyton Schoolhouse

This old burned out building was originally built in 1938 by the WPA program. Many folks in the community, my parents included, went to school here. See at that time instead of having a few larger, centralized schools in Magoffin County, there were many smaller schools tucked away up all these hollers that would only serve that little community's handful of children.

It burned long before my time, but it has been a permanent fixture of the community, one of those things that made it feel comforting and homey just because it has always been here; a reminder of days gone by. And it was a historical and visual landmark. You'd also see kids out here every year taking their senior or prom pictures on its steps.

Well the Parkway Expansion project knocked it down the other day and destroyed it. They've destroyed it to make room for a highway that nobody around here asked for.

This photo was taken by a local man named John Perkins; I found it on his Flickr account.

Microsoft Forcibly Re-Enables CoPilot in the Outlook Mobile App After Every Update...

I have the Outlook Android app installed for work and I noticed 3 or 4 times lately that the "CoPilot" option kept getting re-enabled. So I decided to screen capture the update process today to see if that's what was triggering it.

This company is just so shady nowadays. I mean, they've never exemplified honesty, but come on now, reverting settings that users explicitly change? Get fucked Microsoft.

Check Your Optical Media

So I'm re-ripping my DVD copy of MAS*H to re-encode to a new codec, correct some mistakes I made with my original rip, etc. For example, I noticed that, since this was one of the earlier shows I ripped, I completely missed the fact that there's a second "No laugh track" English audio track that I didn't rip the first time around.

Anyway, these discs have been out in my shed for a number of years now and I have noticed a few of them have started de-laminating in spots. This one in particular, disc 1 of season 4, failed to read once so I pulled it out, cleaned it good and put it back in. It has one large bubble between the layers that isn't apparent on the label side so I don't think it's anything to do with the label getting damp or anything. There's also a wide band of what appear to be very tiny little micro bubbles in a complete circle around the disc. If it doesn't get destroyed in the compression, you can see them in the lower portion of the photo. After letting it warm up and cleaning it a bit I tried again and on the second try it slowed down and thrashed around for a few moments when it got to that same section, dropping into kB/s read speeds, but eventually got past it and succeeded in making the ISO.

I guess I'm going to have to make space to keep complete ISOs of shows and movies I particularly like, like this one. Man, those Bluray images are ridiculous though.

Skyrim Bug and Extra Dialog With Clavicus Vile Quest

In Skyrim while doing the quest for Clavicus Vile, if you refuse to keep the axe, but then speak to Barbas to interrupt him while Vile is telling him to "get over there", Barbas will not teleport to his place at the statue. BUT, you get an extra line of dialog from Barbas that you don't hear if you let the dialog play out without interruption. Afterwards, the statue of Clavicus Vile disappears completely and Barbas just continues to wander around the cave in dog form.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 Spotted with Missing ROPs, Performance Loss Confirmed, Multiple Vendors Affected

Seems like so far, as far as anybody knows, only the Zotac "Solid" cards are affected.

First paragraph reads:

TechPowerUp has discovered that there are NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 graphics cards in retail circulation that come with too few render units, which lowers performance. Zotac's GeForce RTX 5090 Solid comes with fewer ROPs than it should—168 are enabled, instead of the 176 that are part of the RTX 5090 specifications. This loss of 8 ROPs has a small, but noticeable impact on performance. During recent testing, we noticed our Zotac RTX 5090 Solid sample underperformed slightly, falling behind even the NVIDIA RTX 5090 Founders Edition card. At the time we didn't pay attention to the ROP count that TechPowerUp GPU-Z was reporting, and instead spent time looking for other reasons, like clocks, power, cooling, etc.
