MIT bans class president from graduation commencement after pro-Palestinian speech

"You showed the world that MIT wants a free Palestine".

“You called for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, and you stood in solidarity with the pro-Palestine activists on campus. You faced threats, intimidation, and suppression coming from all directions, especially your own university officials, but you prevailed because the MIT community that I know would never tolerate a genocide."

“Right now, while we prepare to graduate and move forward with our lives, there are no universities left in Gaza..We are watching Israel try to wipe Palestine off the face of the earth, and it is a shame that MIT is a part of it.”

“This means that Israel’s assault on the Palestinian people is not only aided and abetted by our country, but our school. As scientists, engineers, academics, and leaders, we have a commitment to support life, support aid efforts, and call for an arms embargo, and keep demanding, now as alumni, that MIT cuts the ties,"

It's Breathtaking How Fast AI Is Screwing Up the Education System

I can confirm this is not just in the land of burgers. Back in the war from October to December, I fleed to Germany and went to school there, and the stuff I saw where absolutely disgusting: kids were using ipads (ibads) given to them by the school, the computers ran windows on them, and every time even a single task came up, they would directly resort to artificial unintelligence. When the "ceasefire" started and I finally went back to Lebanon, most of the kids were using Artificial unintelligence to write their essays as well. I don't blame these kids, they don't know better, they don't know how artificial unintelligence is trained from the stolen work of the people, they don't know what non-free software is, and they don't know how these devices/software are tracking their every move. It's up to the school's to teach them such and schools are doing a terrible job both in America and internationally.

AI Is Accelerating the Loss of Our Scarcest Natural Resource: Water

Reply in thread

No, they don't consume. Instead, they use it for cooling their servers. You might have heard of a way to cool a computer that is more effective than a fan called water cooling. It basically uses water to absorb the hot air from the GPU/CPU to be sent to the radiator where the water is cooled and sent back to be pumped and continue the cycle. This is called a closed-loop water cooling system. These big "AI" databases are also using water to cool the components like how they're being used in the computer, but unlike the example, it's not a closed-loop water cooling system, meaning that instead of the water being reused, it instead gets evaporated and participates in the water cycle. The problem with this is that water used in these open-loop systems is evaporated, meaning it is remove from the local water cycles, making fresh water less accessible in areas that already face shortages, so while the amount of fresh water on Earth stays the same, it becomes inaccessible to the people, which leads to the current situation where more than a billion people don't have enough access to fresh water while big "AI" databases are using over 100 million liters daily. This is only one of the alarming consequences of "AI". This however could be easily fixed by using a closed-loop water cooling systems that use renuable energy sources for the energy required to pump and cool the system. However, sadly, in our current capitalist society, the rich are too greedy and corrupt to save lives and actually help the people.

Whenever I go to Germany it's the same thing! What is it with european bakeries and wasps? Wait a second... the europeans must be undercover wasps and they let and don't mind the wasps eating their food because they're their kind! It all makes sence now!

Why does Signal want a phone number to register if it's supposedly privacy first?

Jami.net

Ignore the comment saying signal is "end to end encrypted" "private" etc They are simply stuck in a delusional state where they try to convince themselves that signal is the best option so they can continue using it. Nothing is private if it isn't fully libre because you never know what the proprietary code is doing. The signal protocol itself has its source code released, and the encryption and security code is publicly available, but the signal Foundation has stated that it uses both free code and proprietary code. Their reason is UI, but it's hard to make sure whatever proprietary code is being used for because you simply can't see it. As GNU puts it: "You're walking in a pitch black cave". Jami is fully libre and is a GNU project. You don't even need any phone number!

Israeli army fire hits UN south Lebanon base for first time since ceasefire

If they mean what I understood, that this is the first time they have hit since the ceasefire, then is pure bs. I live in Lebanon, and not only do they still strike, but they also constantly fly MK drones and war planes above us to break the sound barrier for phycological torment. The ceasefire merely limited the number of times they do it. Our government, of course, is silent, and we still have a political system in where only Christians are permitted to be president even though more than half of the population is Muslim, which results in presidents that neglect places like the south. How corrupt.

Edit: Didn't even need to wait 30 minutes to hear an MK drone

Am I the only one who thinks social media has destroyed the spirit of the internet?

The problem with centralized social media is it replaced all aspects of free speach and public opinion with algorithms that keep you hooked while all your personal information is being sold and given away. It doesn't have to be that way. Learn about free software, what it means, it's history, and it's impact on the world today. Learn about the fediverse. Most importantly, don't expect things to change if you don't. https://www.fsf.org/about/what-is-free-software
