Clarification vs adaptation makes a huge difference in book translations. I don't envy the translators having to translate witty jokes/references that really only work in the original language

Indeed, all fun and games until they kidnap you from the streets because their religious laws prohibit the way you dress.

Reddit users in the UK must now upload selfies to access NSFW subreddits
I hate reddit as much as the other guy, but I'm not sure what other course of action they have if they are by law required to do this.
What this new law means for fediverse users and servers hosted in the UK is still to be found out.

Not sure if it's what the screenshot used (all these translator UIs look the same), but Kagi has a translator that allows putting arbitrary language in the language select box. Backed by a slop factory of course.
Fun to play around with and post screenshots I suppose, though I fail to see the use beyond that.

Discord introduces a feature that lets you quietly ignore users without them knowing
Reply in thread
It's called plugins, and it's great. Technically you are breaking ToS when using them, but there hasn't been any crackdown (the betterdiscord team did remove the more 'risky' mods like messagelogger from the plugin store)

To be fair an argument can be made for the Lego block one, using a novel combination of existing technologies to get better results is how nearly all innovation happens in machine learning.

Google Confirms Non-ADB APK Installs Will Require Developer Registration
Reply in thread
Installing the third party stores would be way harder than it is right now if they do that though. No way the devs of e.g. f-droid are getting a verification on an app that bypasses Google's new 'safety measures'

Shave this minority with one neat rule!
My country just finished their plan for cutting costs, just about every sector got hit. People are crying out about having to pay more, cuts to the support of the weakest members of society, cultural heritage going to get into disrepair, investments in education being put on hold, etc etc.
If the richest person in our country gave 15% of his capital (or half his income last year) the entire cost would be covered. One, single, fucking, person.

**[UPDATED]** *[META] Do we need a rule regarding pictures of text, screenshots of other platforms, etc.? Input needed.*
I think it's 5. for the most part. What could be done is forcing a mandatory tag like [TextOnly] or maybe the platform the screenshot is from [Reddit], [Twitter] etc. That way the people that don't like those types of posts can just filter them out

This is how antivaxxers sound like.
Reply in thread
To be fair, that's on the saner side on the scale of antivaxers. As in if you don't want to put "very dangerous unknown substances" into your body but still be safe you need as many vaccinated people as possible.
