How Reddit Crushed the Internet's Largest Protest
Reply in thread
I too have noticed a general drop in the quality of content on Reddit. Some of the smaller communities keep providing good information but now it's a bit harder to find and sort them, others have absolutely went to shit.

Putin wants to attend an August summit. Host country South Africa doesn't want to have to arrest him
Seems like journalists failed to do their due dilligence on this one. From an international law standpoint South Africa has absolutely no obligation to arrest Putin as he would be protected under diplomatic immunity as stipulated on the Vienna Convention of 1969 (and custom). In fact Article 98 of the ICC treaty directly prevents this from happening.
What South Africa doesn't want is the shit show of having Putin on an official visit. The guy will be bad PR and a liability to them at this point.

Alexei Navalny Sacrificed Himself to Show Russia That Putin Is a Monster
Reply in thread
Absolutely, most people that think they'd take the high road and do the right thing in this situation are not being honest with themselves. As much as I'd love to believe that I would sacrifice everything to fight tiranny, I just know that when the time comes I would choose the easy way out and espace somwhere for a better life.

Everyone I've talked to about joining Mastodon/Lemmy/The Fediverse

Yeah but in that case they are right. Not voting for the bigger party that you don’t like that much could mean that another big party that you really dislike will win.
The people are not the problem, the system that doesn’t allow them to voice their opinions through a fully democratic vote is.
We usually talk about “democracies” as an umbrella term without regards to how their electoral and government systems actually work.

What are your top resources for learning languages?
Forvo is a great resource when I have doubts on how a certain word or sentence is pronounced. You can literally just write the sentences and listen to several different native speakers saying it.
