Single-use e-cigarettes contain batteries that last hundreds of cycles despite being discarded
This shit really grinds my gears. There's absolutely no need for this product. Normal vape is like $20, you're not saving on anything. In EU the manufacturers are obligated to recover used units (they have to setup boxes where you can drop them and handle recycling) but obviously you see them on the ground all the time. This should be banned with the speed of light but EC thinks the current regulations are enough. Fucking infuriating.

‘Seismic shift’: driving unaffordable for many in US amid push toward SUVs
If anyone would care to read the article it's more about companies making more high end cars and running low stocks than making cars bigger. They reduced stock during the pandemic and discovered that they can make more money selling fewer cars with maxed out specs than a lot of base models. They simply don't have base models on stock now and people still have to buy cars so profits are soaring. Basically they made everyone depend on cars by killing public transport and are now milking it hard. Because what are you going to do? Work from home?

It is essential to stop using Chrome. Under the pretense of saving users from third-party spyware, Google is creating an ecosystem in which Chrome itself is the spyware.
"But Chrome is slightly more convenient! Why would I suffer tiny inconvenience today in order to save me from way greater inconvenience later? Who am I? Some reasonable person?" - typical Chrome user.

What happens when Linus dies/retires?
A number of candidates will create their own forks and there will be a long Game of Thrones style war between different factions. After couple of weeks each distro will choose the fork they will make the default one and people will split into warring factions. After that we will enter a nuclear winter style period lasting couple of years during which 90% of post on Lemmy will be just shitposting the rival forks. After a decade or two of backstabbing, dirty politics and other drama new dictator will be selected and all will be back to normal.

Under Argentina’s New President, Fuel Is Up 60%, and Diaper Prices Have Doubled
I think so far this is what people wanted: end the status quo and apply shock therapy.
His supporters hope that in the long run the economy will become independent and the country would come out of the never ending crisis. My guess is that everything will simply end up owned by private interests and while (best case scenario) the economy will do better, people will suffer even more.

Both beliefs are fine, but please realize the hypocrisy
The "belief" we're in a simulation is more like a interesting idea than something people organize their lives around. Is it possible? Yes. Am I going to praise the great programmer every Sunday? No.
The belief in God in most cases is not just belief in some general higher power but a very specific deity with weird morality, silly mythology and bunch of scam artists behind it.

How does employing a rapist not constitute an unsafe work environment for female employees?
Reminds me of a joke: A guy walks down the street and mumbles to himself angrily: You cook every fucking day but no one ever calls you a cook. You fix your car all the time but people never call you a mechanic. You have a small garden and grow your own food but when people see you they don't say "Hey, farmer!". But you rape someone one single time...
But seriously, for the same reason you don't ban drunk drivers from driving for life or shoplifter from shopping. People have to function in society somehow, even if they did terrible things in the past.

Paying damages out of police retirement founds would be a simple, one step, foolproof solution to this problem. You don't want lower retirement? Stop breaking the law. Oh, you're one of the 5 good cops in the country and this would hurt you even though you did nothing wrong? Actually report the bad cops instead just watching. Thanks.

Every developer has opted to pay Montreal instead of building affordable housing, under new bylaw
They will add this fine to the price of the apartments. It should be really simple: certain % of the units have to be social housing or you will not get building permit, period.

AFAIK the regulation already says that the "only necessary" should be available with one click. I think the issue is that it's difficult to go after all the small pages that are breaking the law. The big ones like YT of Google already have the 'disable all' button on top, I'm guessing because EU complained.

Elon Musk's drug use causing turmoil for Tesla, SpaceX execs: WSJ

I like John Oliver's take that he really didn't like the orders to shut down factories during pandemic and got a lot of support from 'mah freedom' nutjobs over this causing not-so-slow fall into the extreme right rabbit hole. It actually makes a lot of sense. He clearly craves attention and approval. He used to get it from the left because electric cars are green and SpaceX is cool technology but eventually the left began demanding more regulation and he started getting some criticism (which he doesn't like that much...). At the same time he noticed that the right is ready to accept him as the 'free speech savior' and love him unconditionally as long as he will help them 'own the libs' so he switched sides.

You guys need to stop
And of course all shit electric cars are all automatic. It's part of the NWO agenda. They want to force us all into electric, automatic cars, Over my dead body! A car that does not produce smelly fumes when driving is not a real car. What I am supposed to smell when walking in the city? Air? Fucking dumb. On top of that they make no sound! There's nothing to tune up to make my car sound like a racing machine. How I'm supposed to let everyone know I have a small dick if I can't rev my engine all the time? Not to mention electric cars don't emit CO2 so I can't lock myself in a garage with the engine running and kill myself when I realize that no one is impressed by my car and my dick is still tiny. Absurd!

Looking at you Ionic, Tauri, ...
I though the same but I tried Tauri and it makes sense. Unlike electron you're not shipping the entire browser with your app and the the low level stuff is just rust so the integration is nice and easy. And using webview for UI? Why not? The reactive libraries are actually nice to work with, it's easy to customize, you have all the tools to inspect/debug your code. It's definitely better then trying to fit GTK into rust.
