Tech giant Oracle cuts 21,000 jobs as it embraces AI

"Embracing AI" means laying off 21,000 people for more compute hardware.

Anyone involved in creating deep/artificial neural networks knows that there are diminishing returns for the "fidelity" of language models when scaling compute capacity; "scaling" does very little in the face of the limitations of the current paradigms of SoTA frontier models' architectures.

Simply put, they're so stupid, they fired the people who could maybe innovate for more hardware... that requires many of the very same smart people they told to kick rocks in the first place.

When did the Internet come to reflect society? Or has society shaped the internet? Were we always distrusting mean and vindictive before the net? Are we really that bad?

When did the Internet come to reflect society?

When it became ubiquitous to industrialized societies. 1995-ish, in my opinion.

Were we always distrusting mean and vindictive before the net?

Absolutely.

Are we really that bad?

Without a doubt.

*Permanently Deleted*

Taking the definition at its etymological root, all anarchy means is "without rule".

In my head-canon, that doesn't necessarily mean the lack of laws, state, institutions or governance; the implication is that there are no citizens or individuals with permanently elevated authority in the polity of government. Without rulers.

Many, of course, disagree with this mostly on the basis of practicality, but I'd like to think it's another way to describe the concept of "No gods, no kings, no masters, no slaves."

The hope for them is that one day, after proving their ability to suffer a boot upon their neck, they will have proved themselves worthy to put their boot on someone's neck.

How does one perpetuate slavery?

Turn some of the slaves into masters.

I always felt connected to my inner Americium, but my mom said I'm a lanthanide through and through. My actinide father said, "don't sweat it, she's acting like a typical halogen."
