White House delays release of US voting machine study as midterms near

Exactly this. You are just telling your vote to someone (some machine) that pinkie promises to count it correctly with no asurance whatsoever.

Assuming it is implemented well, yes! If the audit paper is a QR code that no one will reasonably check, then it is not worth much.

The worst part is that once again, proton is trying to convince its users that it's more secure than it really is. You have to wonder what else they are lying or deceiving about.

Ocasio-Cortez: Musk ‘one of the most unintelligent billionaires I have ever met’
Can AOC run for president in the next election? Or is there some DNC blood oath that only shitty candidates can run?

Doctors Concerned About Neuralink's First Patient
So the gov wants to claim the FDA did not regulate mifepristone hard enough, but this is perfectly fine. What a world.

Amazon Checkout. This should be illegal.
By the way, it is and amazon is already being sued by the US FTC.

Reddit is purging NSFW subs as well as trans-related subreddits (edit: bans are being undone)
I have absolutely no idea what these companies are doing.
Are they afraid of Trump? Are they afraid of Musk? Are they afraid of the combination of both?
Idk, I thought two incompetent idiots like them would be no threat to the corpos of America, even in the oval office. But maybe I overestimated the corpos.
Or are they jumping on the band wagon voluntarily? It's so weird to me...

I'm seriously proud of this

Yeah, but they chose to use Reddit and gboard. Like 2/3 self-inflicted.

Jimmy Kimmel's show to return to air after suspension over Charlie Kirk comments, says Disney
Well, now let's see what Jimmy Kimmel does. Will he come back toning down his rhetoric or will he start by thoroughly criticizing Kirk and Disney right as he gets back. I don't think there really is a third option. If he decide to not address this, he will always weigh the consequences of saying something before saying it (even subconsciously). And in that case, he is not worth watching.

Judge rules Breonna Taylor's boyfriend, not police, caused her death

My takeaway from this is aim for the head instead of warning shots. Ridiculous ruling...
PS: Maybe to clarify, there are now cases ruling that if you manage to kill the cops that don't announce themselves, that is legal self defense. But if you fire a warning shot, they can legally kill you. So it is far better to kill the cops than to give them a chance to kill you, legally speaking... Absolute brain dead legal ruling...

Colorado proposing Bill to move age verification to Operating System rather than web site
Now instead of asking to verify age, make the parents input the age bracket and you reinvented parental controls. The correct way to protect children.

Anyone notice how Brian Thompson dies and suddenly aliens start attacking?
Please, do NOT shoot at airborn targets, or any target where your are not certain a missed shot will safely land in an empty area.

Apple pulls remaining Lightning-based devices from European stores
Reply in thread
I wonder what happens to all those devices that are brand new, but can't be sold any longer due to having the lightning port.
The law was passed years ago and only came into effect now exactly so that Apple could sell the old stock. If they kept making new ones until the deadline, its not the laws fault. Also, they can be sold outside the EU.

ICE agents point guns at bystanders during violent arrest in Maryland | “What’re you gonna do? Shoot me?” one witness yelled. “Go ahead. Shoot me.”

Forget fired, they should face criminal charges as anyone else would if they pointed a gun on someone without a reason.

Children are drawing moustaches on their faces to fool online age checks - and it's working; fake birthdays, borrowed IDs, and creative facial hair bypass age checks
People act as if it was a bug and not a feature. This was intended. After people sufficiently make fun of the current solution that everyone knows how easily it is broken, the next step is requiring both ID and face scan and comparing photo on ID with face scan. Congrats, privacy is removed completely. Every poster is now tied with real life identity.

Firefighting planes are dumping ocean water on the Los Angeles fires − why using saltwater is typically a last resort
Reply in thread
Except the fire goes out once the plant is burnt and a new one can grow. The salt stays for a long time.

Stop children using VPNs to watch porn, ministers told
FYI, with Mullvad VPN set to UK, sites that require age verification:
Sites tha do NOT require age verification:
And xvideos.com is a bit special since it shows you the thumbnails of porn videos but won't let you play them.
But we need to stop VPNs! Think of the whole two children that have VPNs! What if instead of just going to the half of the sites that don't verify age, they figure out how to use a VPN?! Oh the humanity!
Yeah, UK wants to de-anonymize VPN users as the next step in their attack on free speech. It is laughable to think this is about anything else.

PSA: Don't use gmail. Sure, it is a good email and is free. And you may not care about privacy, even though you should. But the bigger danger is your e-mail being tied to your wider google and youtube account. Get banned for spamming youtube live chat, or writing "inappropriate" comment, or maybe for using ad-blocker in the future, and you can say goodbeye not just to your youtube account, but emails and drive data. This has already happend in the past, when youtube algorithm evaluated votening in livestream chat by sending 1 or 2 as spam and banned peoples entire google accounts.

Itch.io games site taken down

I am a big GOG enjoyer myself, but when I need to use steam for anything, I have never encountered such content. Perhaps there is such content in private or otherwise not very visible spaces (such as user profiles), where they will not get reported, but that is true for any site with user content. I call BS on this being an issue.

So naive to think the bad guys did not steal the source code. The bad guys just don't share the zero days and the good guys don't get to see it.
