Don't forget about Supergiant's first game, Bastion. It's currently an absolute steal at 80% off.

Has anyone else been trying to break their reddit-era habit of downvoting?
Reply in thread
If a post contains incorrect information that could be dangerous, you should be able to reply to it and also downvote it so that the incorrect information becomes less visible. For example, if someone said you should pinch your nose and lean your head back when you get a nosebleed. You should be able to correct them and still downvote to make the incorrect information less visible.

Some of my personal favorite modern bands similar to the Florida death metal style are Skeletal Remains, Suppression, Rude, Outre-Tombe, Astriferous, Malignant Altar, Miscreance, and Sijjin. Some of these also sound similar to Consuming Impulse era Pestilence.

Fossilization - Once Was God [Brazil- Sept. 2023] [FFO: Dead Congregation, Krypts, Spectral Voices]
Reply in thread
This really does sound much more like Dead Congregation than their other releases. Really looking forward to hearing the whole album along with Dead Congregation's new one whenever they eventually release it.

Phobophilic - Cathedrals of Blood (Twilight of the Idols) [FFO: Tomb Mold, Chthe'ilist]
Phobophilic deserve so much credit. Enveloping Absurdity is one of my favorite albums from last year and they have been touring constantly to support it. Saw them live twice in the past year. They always put on a good show even though they have been getting stuck with the opening slot.

What have you been listening to recently?
I've been listening to a lot of Chilean death metal lately. Been listening to Putrid Yell, Rotten Tomb, Suppression, Inanna, and Unaussprechlichen Kulten.

Pestilence - Out of the Body [Netherlands, 1989]
Out of the Body has one of the best opening riffs in death metal.

Hooded Menace - Chime Diabolicus [2021] [Death/Doom]
I love the King Diamond influence on this album. I still think Ossuarium Silhouettes Unhallowed is their best, but sometimes I want a little more traditional heavy metal in my death/doom.

The Lord Weird Slough Feg - Vargr Moon [USA, 2003]
The Lord Weird Slough Feg has quite a few top tier albums, but Traveller is my personal favorite.

Outre-Tombe - Nécrovortex [Canada, 2018] [FFO: Entombed, Asphyx, Dismember]
Reply in thread
I like how each Outre-Tombe album feels like it pulls a little more influence from different bands without sounding like a carbon copy. Répurgation sounds like Pestilence, Nécrovortex sounds like Entombed, and Abysse mortifère sounds like Autopsy.

New Organon is pretty good. They've never released a bad album, but the trio of Twilight of the Idols, Down Among the Deadmen, and Traveller is peak The Lord Weird Slough Feg for me. I think after that, they started to lean a little more into hard rock and Thin Lizzy than I prefer.

Allegaeon - Saturnine (2022)
You missed a letter in the band name. It's Allegaeon.

Becerus- Homo Homini Brutus [Italy - 2021] [FFO: Cannibal Corpse, Monstrosity, Sanguisugabogg (without the samples)]
I like that their Bandcamp page advertises "BECERUS have absolutely NO LYRICS!" This is really some caveman death metal.

Sijjin - Angel of the Eastern Gate [Germany, 2019] [FFO: Morbid Angel, Possessed, Sadistic Intent]
Reply in thread
They took all the best parts of Necros Christos, sped it up, and eliminated all the extra interludes. I'm a huge fan of this band and am looking forward to their next release (whenever that is).

If you aren't already familiar with them, check out Beyond from Germany. They definitely have a similar sound to Ascended Dead. Their guitarist went on to form Omegavortex after Beyond broke up. I'd recommend checking Omegavortex out too, although they lean a little more towards chaotic black metal than Beyond.

Burial Hordes - Purgation [Greece, 2023] [FFO: Dead Congregation, Incantation, Grave Miasma]
Sounds a lot like Dead Congregation, which makes sense seeing as they have the same guitarist.

VoidCeremony - Threads of Unknowing (Full Album)
Such a good album. Phil Tougas's leads really take this album to another level.
