For a European citizens' initiative to be valid, it must obtain at least one million valid signatures and meet the minimum thresholds in at least seven countries.
Countries over 100% have overpassed their thresholds.

I know several (low) millionaires and none of them exploited other people's hard work. All of them are self-employed, and one of them is the single employee of their company.
Billionaires on the other hand. Yep, no way to get to a billion without heavy exploitation and sociopathic behavior.

Pets end up in LA shelters after owners detained in immigration raids
I watch Sitting with Dogs YT series, and recently there was a dog in a Cali shelter whose owner went to LA and was disappeared by the ICE. The comments were absolutely vile, and I sincerely hope at least 90% are bots.

Agreed, and this goes for any religion that does it. But what really grinds my gears about (other) leftists defending this kind of religious expression is, this isn't something women choose. They're forced to and groomed from young age to cover themselves. Meanwhile, their brothers, fathers, sons all walk around free to wear shorts, t-shirts, etc. If men had to cover themselves the same way, then sure, at least there would be some level of equality. This is just plain old misogyny that has no place in modern societies.
However, with that said, there's a real possibility banning head coverings would ultimately hurt girls, instead of helping them. Good education and financial independence and stability in adulthood would give these girls a better and safer way to escape. Like with any other societal problem, it's complex and can't be simply "magiced" away.

Trump drives European governments to Microsoft alternatives: What Germany, France, Denmark, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Austria are planning
I wish my company would follow suit. But no. We somehow keep digging ourselves deeper into the toxic M$ cesspit. At this point, at least a quarter of the tickets we get is about one of their products shitting the bed (Outlook, Excel, Exchange, Windows itself—you name it) and us looking for workarounds to patch things up. Recent patch broke DHCP service on some servers. At this point, their updates and patches are less reliable and more dangerous than a random project on Github in alpha stage meant only for personal use.

Back during his first presidency, I watched I think it was Mars rover landing. There was a press conference after the successful touchdown where he was speaking. At this point I knew the man was a stupid POS, but I'd never actually heard him speak for more than 10 seconds.
Whoo boy. Not only was his body language and cadence annoying, he was talking absolute, mindless nonsense. I clicked off the stream and decided to come back later to catch actually smart people talking. Joke's on me. Literally -- in the original meaning of the word -- an hour later he was still babbling nonsense. I was genuinely shocked at how much and for how long this man could talk with zero substance or coherence. The fact that so many people think he "says it as it is" either tells me these people a) never heard him speak for longer than 10 seconds, b) never actually listened with understanding, but just nodded along because he's not a "lib'rul" or c) are actually genuinely so dumb, but by some incredible stroke of luck they've survived long enough to vote for him.

I never played the game, but I did know about the first game's ending and about Joel's fate in the second one, due to the controversy. I really liked the first season, but the second one just ruined it. It had its moments—sure. However, the entire story hinges on an extremely flawed premise. I just couldn't get immersed being reminded of it at every step.
I decided to take a peek at the fandom reactions and thought I was taking the crazy pills. Gamers loved it, and of course anyone who disagreed was a bigot or a hater. I guess it's just my luck to stumble into shows that turn into shit and then get gaslighted by the fandom into believing I'm somehow the crazy one.
For TLOU S2 in particular, Abby can go get fucked, for all I care, and the writers can shove the victim blaming up their ass.

Same why I'm still on Reddit. I'm definitely not getting people who struggle with the same illness that causes fatigue and brain fog to spend more energy they don't have on switching to another platform that doesn't even come up when you type it into a search engine to seek support from other people affected by the illness. It's easy to say "don't use this, don't use that", if all they use these platforms for is for memes and messenger.
I had to create an account and use Facebook in my support job days, because that's where everyone was posting shift exchange requests. An entire department won't just switch to Signal for this just because the new person refuses to use anything not FOSS.
Same witht cars. I prefer not to use my car, and I'm happy that in my day-to-day life I can just walk, cycle or use public transit. But if I'm visiting my parents in the countryside of another country, I'm sure not spending—checks notes—9 hours on train with multiple connections instead of just under 2 by driving the car.
Do what you can to avoid using all these, but don't go to the extremes where you're not getting the info you need or getting to places you need to be. Should the the message.

Australians, especially men, are reading less than ever before
Reply in thread
We had that basically from the first grade of primary school. Each month a new book. It started with just summarizing the text, then gradually went from writing what you think the moral of the story is, to giving a full breakdown and analysis. 12 years of that, for the books I found mind-numbingly boring, that I ended up weaseling/cheatig my way through most of it without even reading. I remember giving my best to try read through the entire Crime and Punishment, but giving up 1/3 into the book. All the classic literature—just not for my brain.
Didn't help that while my primary school teacher had tried to cultivate my creative writing (45 minute, graded assignment), my secondary school teacher was a snob who graded me lower just because she "didn't like my style". God, I hated school, lol.
I still like reading modern fantasy and some other genres, so there's that, but school almost completely turned me off from reading.

Like another person here explained, many of them hate using these thumbnails and titles. Unfortunately, they have to play these stupid games, if they want the dumb algorithm to advertise their content. YouTube all-around has become pretty awful for finding new stuff. Even the search is utter garbage. It's all about the shitty algorithm.

We do read what you write, you're just wrong. Or maybe lacking compassion. Or just don't understand that everyone is different and that education systems generally suck.
When I was a kid, I had two classmates who had accommodations due to their learning disabilities. Nobody thought, hey, they should "be moved to the institutions that will force them to study", because they didn't not want to study. They just needed help. Did the rest of us feel threatened or jealous of them? No. We either didn't care or were happy they got at least a bit of help in this cookie-cutter system.
On the flip side, I was surrounded by straight A students in HS, but 99% of them forgot the material once they were graded on it and ultimately retained the same level of knowledge (sometimes less!) than me who was a B/B- student. And then people like that go on to be shitty doctors, because all they do is learn by heart with little to no understanding of the material, and the educational system rewards that.
The more I read your comment, the more insane it sounds.

Youth loneliness is cured by Adults going into the office

Same here. If I could I'd only WFH, but we only get a few days a week. I don't have an issue disconnecting mentally from work. However, I think a big contributor is I don't exactly hate my current job. I sometimes surprise myself how easily and quickly I switch off.
My TL on the other hand prefers the office, probably because they have two young kids, who can be quite loud and require lots of attention.

I'm just tired of seeing the extremes, including the "people who drive cars are evil" stances. When in reality we're all getting fucked by uneducated assholes, rich car lobbyists and corrupted gov'ts who push against good public transportation—among many other things for public good.
Re: emergency. They didn't drive themselves, but one parent drove the other one. My grandma once had to take a taxi because the ambulance wouldn't come. Yeah, things are fucked in my home country. Many of the reasons I emigrated and why I don't plan on going back.
