The "edit comment" feature, whether paired with deletion or used by itself, does not work due to hitting rate limits. The developer is aware, but don't have capacity to fix it atm.

Having been through several tech enshittification cycles, I've long been wondering when Reddit would be too "meh" for me. That happened earlier this week, when I decided that Lemmy was more the tech and community I was looking for. Planned to leave gracefully during June.

Then I saw the AMA and... That set off my "Fuck This Shit with a Vengeance" so currently coding up a script to make my Reddit account die very ungracefully.

If I were to give advice, the first three tips would be:

-Trust what your child is telling you, over what common sense is telling you.

-Never hesitate with getting a skilled psychiatrist involved if there are any issues with school, medical issues, eating, etc. Because their standard playbook is usually insufficient and by the time they manage to dial in to your child enough to help, a long time may have passed.

-If someone tries to tell you how to "cure" the child, hit them in the face with a pickaxe.

That's pretty ugly, but I expected worse given that headline.

I'll hold off for a bit. Given the hype of the game, I think the temptation to push something will be too great, especially for mild stuff like selling "boosters" or Battle Pass FOMO stuff.

Giving it a month or two and see if I'm pleasantly surprised.

The current events at Reddit are the output of a corporation with no understanding how how to run a community driven site, and way too much financial desperation to take several steps back and learn it.

When I figured out how to "lock" and go to the quantum moon, was my favorite moment.

Realizing I turned off the game loop by stealing the warp core was a moment of beautiful stressful panic, a close second.

It prevents the most obvious cheating like savegame editing, save scum item duplication, and similar. If the game has PvP or leaderboards while still allowing your game character to be taken online when you feel like it, it makes technical sense.

If you don't want to participate in leaderboards and just play single player and maybe co-op or PvP with trusted friends or on a curated server (like people do in Minecraft, Space Engineers, Terraria, old school shooters...), it's just a degradation.
