Google is charging its employees $99 a night to stay at its on-campus hotel to help "transition to the hybrid workplace."
What an absolute joke. Just let people work from home, you absolute dinosaurs.

Spez talks to NY Times
What a disgusting article. I wonder how much spez paid for it, or if the author (apparently a 'longtime Redditor') had his account threatened. That, or maybe he's just so used to corporate bootlicking that his first response to seeing a distressed billionaire was to start lapping at his soles.
Also, this puff piece reeks of arrogance. We fucking made that website what it was, and now this pathetic weasel thinks he no longer needs us? And there's dumbasses on Reddit who defend this shit???

The Coup of /r/AssholeDesign
This is gonna happen to every subreddit eventually. What remains to be seen is how long things last before subreddits start imploding.

Everyone I've talked to about joining Mastodon/Lemmy/The Fediverse
Most people just wanna doom-scroll, they have no interest in having conversations.

I want to debunk Reddit's claims, and talk about their unwillingness to work with developers, moderators, and the larger community, as well as say thank you for all the support
Poor Christian, going through all that shit just because spez is jealous about him having a better product.

Currently, people looking for alternatives for Reddit on Google will see Lemmy listed first.
That could just be Google’s algorithm predicting what you would most likely search for.

r/Nintendo is still down too, which means even Mario’s had enough of spez and his bullshit.

Lemmy.world Admin Response to Defederation from Exploding Heads
And this right here is what separates Lemmy from voat: active community moderation that works to limit the reach of hateful bigots. While I’m a big proponent of free speech myself, I do agree that many kinds of ‘speech’ aren’t the most conductive thing for building a welcoming platform; especially one that caters to many vulnerable groups.
This move also highlights the core strength of a decentralized platform, by the way: while people who no longer want to engage with this content can stay safe, nobody was deplatformed! We achieved a clean break without banning or ‘silencing’ anybody.
So, good job on responsibly using the defed hammer!

Is Lemmy more likely to succeed than Voat? Why or why not?
Unlike that exodus, the Lemmigration isn’t for censorship and freedom of speech issues (inevitably drawing in the most toxic, bigoted and hateful section of Reddit to voat); it’s because of reduced accessibility and usability, alongside the visible contempt that Reddit’s administration has for their users (free content providers) and moderators (free content curators).
This means the people fleeing Reddit’s shores aren’t doing so because they want to recreate fatpeoplehate elsewhere; it’s because Reddit won’t let blind people moderate their own communities.

Japan marks 78th anniversary of Hiroshima atomic bombing
As much as I would love to see nuclear disarmament, the unfortunate fact remains that bad actors will continue to keep their weapons; which will, of course, later be used as a threat against those who don’t have these weapons.

feminism rule
Yeah, why do that when you can let women who hate men define feminism as ‘women who hate men’ lol
Like seriously, are we just gonna pretend that the feminist movement doesn’t have a ton of loud, hateful bigots who often take way too long to be kicked out? Hell, even TERFs still get to call themselves ‘feminists’ somehow.

Meta can rage farm Mastodon without controlling it
Along with Facebook, we’ll also have to be prepared to deal with bought-out Fediverse platforms who’re willing to federate with Meta. Do whatever to cut them off.

lol Reddit’s death has finally started. Can’t wait to see spez’s asswipe shills bring the whole thing down with their incompetence.
EDIT: I went through the subredditdrama post, and looking at some of the comments made me glad I’m leaving that place.

I mean, Reddit killed off ‘polished UX’ and that’s what drove me here. All the great 3PAs are on the Fediverse, after all!

Pence condemns Trump on Jan. 6 indictment: ‘country is more important’
I love how these spineless cowards are finally denouncing Trump’s attempt at a coup, long after this action lost any value it might’ve had.
