‘Horrible, horrible human being’: Alan Dershowitz on Rep. Ilhan Omar probe

Dershowitz argued that public opinion could shift if federal investigators are able to prove she provided false information on her citizenship application or that someone else submitted false information on her behalf.

According to Wikipedia, she became a US citizen when she was 17, and if the latter was the case, presumably another, not her, would be culpable.

Is Dershowitz becoming kind of like a birther?

(my bold)

In 2008, responding to the use of Metallica's music to torture Iraqi prisoners, Hetfield was unoffended and replied, "If the Iraqis aren't used to freedom, then I'm glad to be part of their exposure."[47] British band Chumbawamba subsequently released a song called "Torturing James Hetfield" in response.[48] In a 2017 interview, Hetfield reaffirmed his previous stance, saying, "I'm honored my country is using something to help us stay safe, if they are. But then again, once the music is out, I don't have control over that. Just like how someone's giving it away online. They're using it to do what they do."[49]

Germany shutting of their nuclear power at the behest of the fossil fuel lobby.

Huh?

and also, what about solar and wind?

But it’s not like this forced degrowth in the face of the war is doing anything to counter climate change any more, that ship has sailed by now.

So we give up on trying to fight climate change?

I understand Russia, they don’t want to have missiles easily reaching Moscow and loose access to the black sea,

and now, is Moscow safer from missiles and have easier use of the Black Sea than before the war?

I understand Ukraine the nationalists there want a permanent break from Russia and permanent russophobia is a great strategy to maintain power.

In a sense, Putin and Stalin did much to promote Ukrainian nationalism, much like the Nazis in a way promoted Zionism, or Zionists promoted Palestinian nationalism

Ukraine won’t be holding out much longer and gonna end up as a failed, landlocked state.

When will this happen? Before 2030?

Europe really deserves the fascist takeover by AFD/LePen/Reform that is inevitable coming next.

When do you think these parties will take over Germany, France, and UK?

How The CIA Conjured Ukrainian Nationalism

Kit Klarenberg

I don't think I ever heard of wt:thon.

Let's see: wp:The Grayzone.

Coverage of The Grayzone has focused on its misleading[25][26][27] reporting, its criticism of American foreign policy,[1][2] and its sympathetic coverage of the Russian, Chinese and former Syrian governments.[32] The Grayzone has been accused of downplaying and defending the persecution of Uyghurs in China,[33][37] of publishing conspiracy theories about Xinjiang, Syria and other regions,[38][39][40][1] and of publishing pro-Russian propaganda and disinformation, especially during the Russian invasion of Ukraine.[36][40][31][1][41]

I'm sure the CIA was up to a few things, and there are probably some bad elements in the Ukrainian armed forces, and I disagree with conscription (on both sides), and not allowing men between 18 to 60 years of age leaving (though even if they were, who'd take 10s of millions of Ukrainian men, assuming most would even want to leave Ukraine (and even despite the hardships)?).

And they were utilized in the 2014 coup as the core of the Euromaidan.

I don't know if it can be called a coup if the Ukrainian parliament was involved and Yanukovych (wp article) was unpopular.

I think he should have been allowed to finish his term if was set to end later that year, but IIUC, he was on his way out.

Did you know the slogan “Slava Ukraini” in the complete form (“Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the Heroes!”) has been created by the banderites who fought with the NAZIs during WWII, and now been adopted as the official military greeting? The same banderites who massacred a 100.000 poles Wikipedia article. This is reality.

wp:Slava Ukraini

The phrase first appeared at the beginning of the 20th century in different variations, when it became popular among Ukrainians during the Ukrainian War of Independence from 1917 to 1921.[1]

...

Ukrainian historians argue that the greeting has its roots in Taras Shevchenko’s works.[5][6] In his 1840 poem To Osnovianenko, Shevchenko used the phrase "Glory of Ukraine":[7][8]

The same banderites who massacred a 100.000 poles Wikipedia article. This is reality.

and that was very bad what Ukrainian nationalist did.

However, according to the article, this was between 1943 and 1945, when Stalin, and his ally, Hitler, made a pact to invade Poland and divide it between them. IIRC, 22% of Poland's population died in that war.

No one looks completely good in this, and my support for Ukraine isn't absolute.

(FWIW, after much contributions in r/Ukraine, my 2 reddit accounts (including my main one that had over 100 000 karma points) were banned from that subreddit, and now have been banned site wide. DMBFFF and Putinstartedthewar (Putin started the war) because I gave some slack for the Russians (and even DMCMNFIBFFF) got banned (different reasons, I think).)

Historical facts are now denounced as Russian propaganda like reality and truth just doesn’t mean anything any more.

Didn't Putin essentially tell Tucker Carlson that he doesn't think there really is such a thing as Ukraine?

They are not driven by any ideology, opportunists like MAGA.

MAGA sounds bad enough.

Like they don’t believe that Russia is evil because they are just acting in their own best selfish interest, and they’ll believe the same about the US and other states too.

Yes, but Putin's authoritarianism isn't helpful to Russia, and his invasion of Ukraine kind of proves it.

Indeed, to this extent, it kind of parallels Trump.

Trump's taking Maduro was a relative cakewalk, but now he's again stuck in the "Forever War" in the Mid-East, in this case Iran. I'm sure a few in the state department told him, or would have loved to have told him, that invading Iran would be as "easily" as Iraq, except that Iran has more people, is (IIRC) over 2x the size, and has a lot more mountains.

Putin had a bit of a cakewalk in Crimea when Ukraine was, if you will and IIUC, fucking around and being corrupt. It was less easy for Putin when he started to stir things up in Donbas. Then 8 years later, he might have thought that he'd take Kyiv in 3 days, and now it's over 4½ years later. (perhaps not too much like Trump boasting that he'd settle the Russia-Ukraine problem the day he was elected—which was over 23 months ago)

For the cost of the war, Putin could have better developed Russia, or maybe land Russians on the Moon.

Now he'll be remembered as an authoritarian bully that wants to crush Ukraine, including murdering Ukrainians and trafficking Ukrainian children where they will be taught to hate Ukraine and kill Ukrainians, all because Ukraine won't bend the knee to the Kremlin and dallied with joining NATO, which Putin has made far more attractive to Russia's neighbors.

So talking points like “Putler will soon march and take Berlin” is defeated by a simple: What would he gain by actually doing that?

I'm not sure if I heard that. Controlling the governments of his neighbors would suffice, and getting Germany to leave NATO would be extra. He might be doing that with the AfD.

Sadam was a hitler. Gaddafi was a hitler. Assad was a hitler. The Ayatolla was a hitler.

All of whom were dictators who murdered 10 000s if not 100 000s.

All who were very bad.

but back to my question:

Europe really deserves the fascist takeover by AFD/LePen/Reform that is inevitable coming next.

When do you think these parties will take over Germany, France, and UK?

So in answer to your question: “sooner than expected”.

I don't think any of them will have German chancellery, the French presidency, British prime ministership, nor the majority of their respective countries' legislatures: not this year, not next year, not before 2030, and perhaps not ever.

.1. Any right-wing, authoritarian, nationalist ideology characterized by centralized, totalitarian governance, strong regimentation of the economy and society, and repression of criticism or opposition. [1922]

Bingo bango America is fascist, lol.

right-wing,

Presumably, many leftists consider centrists to be rightists, while many rightists consider centrists to be leftists.

authoritarian,

The US doesn't seem to be too wt:authoritarian, at least compared to many other countries not generally described as authoritarian.

nationalist ideology

How many countries allow the public burning of its own flag?

characterized by centralized, totalitarian governance,

I don't see that, at least not completely. Some states allow abortion, some don't. Some have the death penalty, some don't. etc.

strong regimentation of the economy

The US arguably has more free enterprise than many other countries.

and society,

Lots of American men have long hair.

and repression of criticism or opposition. [1922]

Trump's anti-defamation suits against Bill Maher failed (and deservedly so).

Jon Stewart mocks Trump regularly (and rightly so).

I hate all governments by the way, some are definitely more worthy of scorn than others though.

I'm kinda agree with you there.

I think the governments of North Korea, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Iraq under Saddam Hussein, the Taliban, and Hamas (what were they thinking would have happened after that stupid stunt on 7 October 2023 (which, btw, was Putin's 71st birthday)) are about as bad as the US government, if not worse.

The US has done and is doing lots of bad things, but I wouldn't describe them as fascist.

Indeed, I think I remember watching a YouTube video where calling the US fascist somewhat minimizes what they did in the past. I suppose they're right insofar that neither Franco's Spain, Mussolini's Italy, nor Pinochet's Chile had millions of black slaves, nor stole millions of sq km of indigenous lands (though I suppose with Mussolini it wasn't from a lack of trying).

It's like the word "genocide". Before I read the UN definition, I thought it was something like mass murdering millions. Now residential schools are considered genocide, while, IIUC, leftists such as BadEmpanada and Roger Waters deny a Uighur genocide.

We need new words, I suppose.

Do you think your time is best spent arguing about the government of a small island 90 miles off the coast of Florida that sends free doctors around the world, or the global hegemonic power that’s starving the children there to death, who’s also responsible for destabilizing the world for the last 80 years?

Isn't Cuba the 2nd largest island (and largest island nation) in the Caribbean? If it was a US state it'd rank at 35th largest, pushing out Virginia; or bigger than Ireland (both ROC and NI combined) or Iceland—don't be fooled by Mercator. 😁 🙂

Don't a lot of US doctors work pro bono around the world?

Is the US banning food imports to Cuba (and why can't Cuba feed itself as its density is less than 150/sq km)?

For much of the past 80 years, it seems the world has been relatively stable. Of course there was the cold war, but it never went to nuclear blows. After greatly helping, as an Ally, to disinfect Germany of much of its Nazi vermin, and Japan of much of its militarist vermin, those countries have done pretty well. China grew from Mao, to Deng, to its current dictator (and Taiwan even more so), India got its independence, and now it has an ≥$5 trillion GDP.

wp:Property is theft (rd to Pierre-Joseph Proudhon#Private property and the state)

Property, in his view, is both theft and freedom. It is theft when one person owns the property that others need to survive. Property is theft when the person who owns it can own it without occupying it and can derive rent, income, and profit simply because they hold legal title

So if a person builds a house, and then rents it, that person is a thief, but if wt:thon sells it, that might be okay? Maybe don't build houses you don't intend to live in or give away, I suppose.

Zionism made deals with Nazis to facilitate immigration to Palestine (Haavara agreement). Also Zionist orgs actively worked against the Jewish leftist groups in Europe, and by extension, helped the authoritarian states (Nazi Germany and Stalinist Russia).

Apparently the Jews didn't migrate fast enough as 6 million were murdered.

Oddly enough, IIUC, those who made it to Palestine in the 1930s fared better than those in most of Europe (I suppose UK, Finland, Switzerland, and maybe Albania being notable exceptions (I don't immediately know about those in Portugal and Spain, and I don't know how many were in Ireland)).

Zionism did not promote Palestinian nationalism. ... Zionism began colonization of Palestine.

So noted, and eventually I'll probably check it out. Thanks.
