How good are you at your hobbies?

Reply in thread

I don't think that's universally true, I agree with some other posters here that a big part of enjoying a hobby is the learning process and getting better at it.

Yes, excessive comparison to others and worries about performance and the like are killers for enjoyment, but the pursuit of skill is a major part of a fulfilling hobby for me.

What ongoing projects are you working on?

A backpack!

Been getting into MYOG the last few weeks/months, and after a few practice projects I'm now drafting my own travel backpack pattern. Just made the first fabric prototype including all the trickiest parts yesterday, and it all fit. So today i printed the final patterns and will begin preparing the pieces of the actual pack.

What podcast(s) do you recommend?

99 Percent Invisible

Wide variety of topics, all somewhat obvious if a bit niche, but they turn out so much deeper than you thought.
Also Roman Mars has a very pleasant voice.

Lateral

Out-of-the-box thinking game show from Tom Scott of (former) YouTube fame.

What are your favorite "Bob Ross" YouTube channels? (see body)

Pask Makes - Australian wood- and metalworking guy who does the most elaborate and intricate things with absolute chill.

Dashner Design and Restoration - also woodworking, finds old and neglected mid century modern furniture at thrift stores and restores them beautifully.

Maybe tangential but FutureCanoe - meme-y cooking channel, super relatable and relaxing mostly because his voice sounds like existential dread.
