Epic CEO Tim Sweeney says new multiplayer games are failing because players have no reason to leave their friend groups, touts Unreal Engine 6’s cross-game features as a solution

Reply in thread

By all means don't let me yuck your yum. I get that it's a popular genre, that people really like these games, and that's legit.

But it's kinda like, well imagine you're a huge basketball fan and you're really into football too. But over the last 10 years most of ESPN's programming has shifted over to auto racing, which bores you to tears. And hey, that's fine if you like auto racing, but now it's legitimately hard to find any basketball or football content.

Anyway, my point is, it's just a sucks to see the industry dominated by something you don't really care for.

What is your favourite gaming console you have played?

Reply in thread

I have a heavily modded wii and I love it. You can play anything on it, it's got everything. The only downside, no hd support. I've been considering looking into some other consoles for that reason.

Honestly, my biggest issue is that Rock Band works so much better in HD. But... I have the giant plastic peripherals that I have, so I'm kinda stuck in this ecosystem now.

Modern games kinda suck half the time.

I've said this before in other threads, but here I go... What's popular right now is battle royale shooters, and that's a shame, because battle royale shooters all suck. And yes Epic, you are largely to blame, as you make one of the most popular entries in this terrible genre.

If there's any worse game mechanic than frantic inventory management while under fire, I have yet to see it. At least in chess boxing they pause to take their turns between rounds.

Also, winning feels good, I think most people would agree with that. But if the game hosts 100 players with teams of 4, that means 4% of players get to "win". Compare to CoD or Overwatch, where in most game modes 50% of players get to win.

And just as a side note, I don't think Epic has solved anything with some new voice chat system. Because it's not new, discord already exists, steam already has integrated voice chat.

Valve describes just how brutal RAM negotiations are in 2026

Hey, I wouldn't disagree with that for the most part. But I would still say this is mostly an example of supply and demand.

When supply is so limited that you probably won't be able to acquire all of a resource that you need, it's perfectly rational to attempt to secure as much as you can from the next batch, even if that means prepaying to ensure your access.

Now if that buyer is offering higher prices to secure the resource, it's also perfectly rational for the manufacturer to sell it to them.

We're going to continue to have this problem as long as that relationship remains the same. No legislation or trade deal or tariff or is going to make a meaningful difference. The only way to solve this situation is to increase supply or decrease demand. Well, I suppose you could outlaw LLM training in every country on earth, but good luck with that.

Why Reddit, Inc. (RDDT) Crashed on Monday

Lol, finance (and thus financial reporting) is so braindead.

I'll summarize the whole article: Why did RDDT crash? "Because the stock price went down. Some people sold the stock, so more people sold it, now the price is lower"

Thanks Yahoo finance, this is the journalism we rely on you for...

Law enforcement issues warning in the wake of UnitedHealthcare CEO killing

"Calls for targeting the executive team, their families, homes, and places of work using a variety of online and offline means to harass, disrupt, and harm the individuals and the organizations have become widespread."

I'd argue that this is a non issue that doesn't warrant additional attention, as it only affects less than 1% of the population.

Instead, do more to combat drunk driving, that will have a bigger meaningful effect on the populace.

I still can't get over Skyrim. Are there any games that can replace it?

Ok you want something as rich and interesting as skyrim, so I'm assuming open world games are your jam.

There are three games you should play.

  1. Red Dead Redemption 2 - it's a Western, the world is very believable, and it makes you feel like you're really part of it. You can follow the main story line, or you could spend your days hunting and fishing. You could travel from town to town playing every poker game you can find. You can conduct train robberies, breed horses, really, there's just a whole lot to do.

  2. Cyberpunk 2077 - this is RDR2 but in a scifi dystopian future where the corpos own everything, sex is for sale on every billboard and every ad break, and the only justice is what you can achieve on your own. You've got a ticking time bomb in your brain and no time to fuck around. In this world where you can't trust anyone, somehow what really matters are the friends you make along the way. (seriously)

  3. The Witcher 3 - from the same studio that made cyberpunk, the Witcher 3 is truly a masterpiece of storytelling. The one caveat I have for this game is that it starts hard, almost "souls-like". But get past that first rough hour and there is an extremely rich world with a seemingly unending collection of stories to become a part of. This may be the most skyrim-like of the games listed here, but you're in for a treat, because this is a much better game than Skyrim.

All three of these games are gonna make you feel real feelings, they're all actually better at telling stories than Skyrim is. The Witcher 3 in particular loves to live in the grey zone, it'll make you make ethical choices that matter, and you probably won't like any of the possible outcomes. But this is a good thing!

Operation Narnia: Iran’s nuclear scientists reportedly killed simultaneously using special weapon

This is state sanctioned mass murder. This is state terror attacks across a national border. This is so unethical and obviously illegal, I don't know what else to say about it.

We need to distance ourselves from Israel. We need to stop giving them weapons. Right now, the taxes I pay go partially to arming them, I am partially responsible, and this is not "ok". I do not want to be doing this, I never wanted this...
