I spent an ungodly amount of time in school last month (for my teaching practice), and I've only written... slides for my lectures 😅 ...which was an absolute blast! I even closed it out with a legendary story of our understanding of light, from optics to quantum mechanics, and the students loved it! This overshadows the disastrous failure of the crowdfunding campaign for the other book, from which I finally feel free. This last month will be entirely dedicated to writing Section B of the Kanteletar novel, which I can hopefully complete before New Year's Eve.

So yeah, nothing new on the fiction front, but I got to try my hand at scientific outreach writing and I should absolutely do it again at some point!

It's an incredible resource and I will definitely try and use it for my future stories! Thank you for all the time and effort you put into this.

EDIT: Ho finito di tradurre Simulacra; mi ero dimenticato che anche Snowstorm e Lady Firefly erano English-only, prossimamente tradurrò anche quelle!

Update: I added EPUB formats for both Meteorina and all other short stories; I have been postponing that QoL fix for a LONG time but you finally gave me a reason to go and do it 😁

Missed this post earlier but absolutely seconded.

I always try to make my prose as easy as possible, especially when describing characters and their dialogues. I don't always manage, especially because I let my hand run a bit for environmental descriptions, but ease-of-access is something I strive for. Look at Sanderson: he makes people read 1000-pages tomes of epic fantasy, how does he do it? It's his prose: mind-boggingly easy, to the point of numbing the reader. To me it's a flaw to push it to that extreme, but it works for his readers.

FINALLY some sun popped out, so I did my best to enjoy it. I still wrote plenty, and by following my usual template:

Done this month:

• Kanteletar's first section is almost done (17k words, draft, 🇮🇹)
• Translated a "quick fic" (1k words from a random prompt) that didn't quite make the cut for our collective's magazine
• Wrote a quick fic on an orbital city in year ~2350 of my setting
• Wrote a small "analysis" of state-of-the-art solarpunk hieroglyphs (can share/explain upon request)

To be done in August:

• Translate Kanteletar's first section to English
• Sketch that Meteorina story (setting is post-Campi-Flegrei detonation, where rebuilding communities ask for help to whale communities in the Tyrrhenian Sea)
• I'm not editing that fantasy until the editor(s) contact me with comments xD

I'm starting fulltime courses in September, so August is the last month of unintentional vacation I got. Will try to make the best out of it.

What I've done this month (not much):

• Ehh... halfway through editing Words of Tomorrow
• Racked up a couple rejections from Italian spefi magazines
• Planned another short story (fifth part of Meteorina) for a solarpunk contest in April
• Read the newly published anthology by Lino Aldani, an Italian scifi writer from the 60s

Plans for April:

• Finish that goddamn editing
• Write the short story
• Maybe send Simulacra Navigans to some Finnish publishers? Unlikely they will print it in English, but who knows...

Jon Kalman Stefansson, an Icelandic writer, once said: "Writers are machines that turn grief into words". I personally don't get inspired by grief, but getting words down (to a diary, to a page that you will burn, etc) is definitely therapeutic!

Personally I'm going to use this chart to sketch factions in my solarpunk stories. It's not a perfect diagram, but far better than the old political compass.

It's a craft that requires failure, and everyone has their own learning times. As long as you're enjoying it, you should keep writing it!

• Written the fourth short story of Meteorina (7k words, in Italian) for a scifi contest

Goals for next month:

• Pick up Words of Tomorrow to add some scenes here and there before sending it to the editor (hopefully last time I tinker with that story)
• Finish sketching out the five stories and the worldbuilding for Kanteletar (solarpunk novel set in a library across 400y)
• Read the fourth solarpunk anthology by Italian authors (should come out next week)
