Due to my job I was a mandatory reporter for suspected child abuse.

This means I was legally liable to report any suspicion of child abuse or neglect. I could lose my job, face a fine, and/or face jail time.

I had to call CPS for a friend's kid.

The friend was not the problem, her ex husband was.

Long story short, the kid is fine, and the friend now has a different spouse and many more kids with the new spouse, lol.

It was the right thing to do, even though the friend didn't want to involve a government agency to handle it. Just caused a strained friendship for a while.

I can understand not wanting to pay a kid for lawn work, I've been broke before. Just say no thank you and go on with life.

That being said, we hire kids in our neighborhood all the time.

We have two girls (9 and 6, I think, never met them, grandma drives and "supervises") who come pick up dog poop, and we've had a kid for a couple years who turned mowing yards in the summer into an LLC and he just hired his first employee to help out with client growth.

I know if he wasn't a white blonde kid who looks halway decent (long hair, which just makes me jealous, but boomers would have a fit) then the Karen's would call the cops.

Someone in the neighborhood called the cops about a black woman going through mailboxes. It was a postal worker, in uniform, in a clearly labeled mail truck. I just don't get it.

Americans, what is something that Europeans have/do that makes no sense to you?

In my case, and this the US, I had friends who smoked.

I was curious, bummed one, and once I got past the coughing I really enjoyed the effects, that said by the time you no longer get the "high" (for lack of a better word) you're addicted.

Fast forward 20 years and I'm still trying to quit.

Quit for 5 years cold turkey, but... Shit went down in almost every facet of my life, and I went back.

But I'm down to about a pack a week.

One in the morning, one on the road to work, and one or two during my shift if time allows.

Just need to kick it for good.

Edit: To correct typos

I would have less of an issue with the DARE program if it was actually educational, and not just progaganda in the drug war.

Face it people, drugs won.

Anything that can hijack the pleasure center of your brain can be problematic. Whether it be drugs, food, sex, whatever.

Balance in all things.

Today we learnt...

I'd rather re-fart my own fart, than have my dick dip into a public toilet again.

One is slightly, uncomfortable, maybe? The other opens the mind to all the diseases that could potentially infect your dick in a public toilet. Unlikely? Sure. Possible? In some cases, with some diseases, yes - however slim.

We keep the front mowed for the HOA.

The backyard can grow until we worry about snakes affecting our pups.

We have a front garden that gets no care outside HOA recommendations. It came with the house.

Can't wait until I can OWN a house, but the market (with all the influences upon it) isn't there.

I'm saving, and considering moving to another state, if that helps all the pedantic monsters our there.
