I'm actually, genuinely shocked by the ageism in such debates every single time. There's no such thing as age-based incompetence, TBH. There are sound people for every field available everywhere. Why do we have to assume this? Every generation has at least a few people who are competent in their field, even in computing. It's more important that the literate of us unite to end illiteracy and stop injustice performed in the name of technology. This, honestly, is just making fun of each other, for apparently no sound reason. And I'm talking about the comments, not the meme. I might, or not, get some sour disagreements, or straight-up very bitter replies for arguing even this, ...and again, I ask: Do we reeaaally have to do this?

Technology too has a supposed duty of bringing people together...!

DBus is a system-wide messaging system. It's for stuff like notifications and system-wide events, ...or so do I think. But the aim is to allow all programs, running system-wide, to announce anything for others programs to react to.

DuckStation recently changed to a source-available license that prohibits distributing modified versions of the software and prohibits commercial use. Before, it was GPLv3.

DuckStation is an emulator for some Sony PlayStation console. PS2, I think Thanks to [email protected] I know that it was a PS1 emulator. This software used to be given to users under the GPLv3 license, which grants freedoms such as distribution of the source code of the software (DuckStation) for no extra cost (well, DuckStation also costs no money! ...so, you get to eat the cake and learn its recipe too, for free!).

...Now they've switched to a license which allows you to see the source code, but does not grant you rights over the source code that GPLv3 did (which is essentially ANYTHING as long as you publicize everything you make with the source code, under the GPLv3 license also - changes to the code, new software that uses any portion of the code, anything you make with it).

OpenOffice, Emby, Audacity, and Android (the "Android Open-Source Project") have also done this in the past.

Knowing this stuff on Free, Libre, and Open-Source ("FLOSS") platforms like Lemmy is almost necessary given that they're built on these principles. Please get acquainted with them.

I could see lower-quality hardware that could hurt a Deck being prevented, but... A patent on third party-friendly hardware... from a company that is happy with people modding their games to death and resurrection?

Anybody mind explaining how?
