Question: People who still frequent Reddit, has it gone back to business as usual or are the protests still having effect?

I'll be honest I revanced the RIF app so i can still use it like I always have for the time being until it breaks. I don't notice much difference, but since using Lemmy it's really made me notice how crap Reddit had actually become. I genuinely check Lemmy more and post more here. It's more engaging and so far the people are nice. I'm still new here tho and still finding my feet on navigation etc but it's making a lot more sense now!

I probably will still check Reddit on RIF whilst it still works as I do like the niche subs and they are still active for me. I did initially try the official Reddit app and jesus what a mess that is, I will not use it once RIF permanently breaks. So I'm still there but more lurking than posting.

Disappointed ex-Reddit user after the APIcalypse - starter pack

Newbie here and apologies if these are FAQs but just want one line answers

What's an instance?

What's a community?

What are federations?

Whats the difference between all these?

What's mastodon?

What's Kbin?

What's ActivityPub?

Just jargon I'm trying to get my head around, I'm still confused on signing up to different communities?! I guess and yeah.. a bit lost I suppose. If there are FAQs to all this please direct me to them, thanks!

Reddit Refugees on Lemmy, how are you guys liking lemmy so far?

Someone actually said it spot on on Reddit in a random post saying the problem with Lemmy are Devs, they overcomplicate it to be "different" trying reinvent the wheel when there's no need. Like "Instances" just call them servers.. it's like learning a new language for the sake of being different, it's pointless and confusing for new users.

I like Lemmy but I think it's still too confusing a construct and not enough streamlining of new and different content. Will it change.. time will tell but I think if it doesn't quickly it will just be a niche thing people use as an alternative but nowhere close to where its trying to be.
