Texas anti-ICE protesters convicted of terrorism charges sentenced to at least 50 years in prison

Reply in thread

And his history of pardoning real criminals and genuine terrorists is well established.

When biden pardoned his son, it seemed like a dick move, but the accusations against his son were 100% politically motivated. Trump's own sons did far, far worse and similar shit but got no legal trouble.

Also biden commuting the federal death sentences of all federal inmates except for a few was also justified. Trump went insane with executions. He executed more people than any president of the 20th century. FDR had a record... But he was a 3 term president and half his executions were German saboteurs during ww2. Trump almost beat his record in 6 months... And I should mention that post 1963 until 2020 the US federally only executed 3 people. They were under Bush, and one of them was Timothy McVeigh.

Every single one of those people need to be released with full pardons and given 1 million dollar compensation for every month they spent behind bars.

And where would the money come from? Just take some of Musk's or Zuckerberg's stock and liquidate it. If their lawyers give any trouble then they need to be put in solitary until they crack (which could be as little as 30 minutes).

It is beyond meaningful lifespan anyway. Even if you were a young 20 year old, if you are locked up for 50 years you would be 70 when considering release. They won't release you even then because it is unlikely that you will have anyone to pick you up or help you get on your feet, and after 50 years of being in prison most people cannot function.

Imagine if someone locked up in 1976 was released in 2026. You think they will know how to even look for a job or a place to live? No amount of prerelease education will prepare them for that.

Carney Under the Sway of the Broligarchs | The Tyee

Reply in thread

Avi Lewis is not centre right. And Libs aren't the new Cons. Liberals have always had a strong fascist leaning streak, the difference between Carney and PP is that PP is really, REALLY awkward and stupid while Carney is just a bit smoother. Carney makes a big game about elbows up and his Davos speech, but he immediately walked back EVERYTHING he said. The moment Trump dies or is deposed in some way (and he is likely to be assassinated by the Mossad for his perceived betrayal of Israeli interests, or even by the CIA due to his insane levels of domestic and international destruction), he will deal with Vance or whoever else is president with the same level of cooperation as he and other PMs did in the past.

Basically you have lunatic extreme right vs. stone-cold extreme right vs. some semblance of progressives.

Canada should keep its data out of U.S. hands

I would love that, but the data sharing laws that were passed in the years after 9/11 mean it is highly unlikely that the US will give up on whatever data access they have. Also Carney's new deals with US tech and Palantir tells me more than anything what he really thinks of data privacy and sharing... even stranger when he once went on to say that the Canadian military needs a guerrilla or civilianized insurgency-ready resistance ability when he is expanding data sharing despite this and actively pushing for firearms prohibition. Two things that make organizing any resistance extremely difficult.

I hate sports and the olympics for that very simple purpose. The only times I gave a fuck about FIFA was in 1998 and 2010. 1998 because I was literally in Paris when France was winning (have you ever walked in the streets of Paris and were 100% alone? Yeah, it is a bizarre feeling) and in 2010 because I was learning German and all the meetup groups at the time wanted to watch the games.

While We Watch the U.S., Canada’s Democracy Is Quietly Eroding

Exactly. This whole 'we need a businessman' line was originally started by Ross Perot in the 90s. To be honest, it only would make sense if you know nothing about public vs. private infrastructure and profit vs. 'this is lossy, but critical'.

For example healthcare... I hate to say it, you cannot make money off healthcare without being extremely predatory and evil. this isn't me being idealistic and somehow refusing to believe you can be 'good' while maintaining a for-profit model. YOU CANNOT MAKE HEALTHCARE PROFITABLE WITHOUT BEING EVIL!

The reason? Despite it being absolutely critical, healthcare and insurance is going to need a ton of money to maintain, and unless you're denying healthcare most of the time (and only partially covering the other) you will lose money. You know the private for-profit healthcare clinics that have been popping up in Canada over the past few decades? They deliver less results and cost more public money than public clinics do. Yes, they're getting taxpayer dollars, a lot of them, and STILL can't turn a profit.

If you said 'no more public healthcare, all private now, but they need to stand up on their own two feet' most of them would collapse within a few years. Because no matter how important this shit is, they can't be profitable. So they are given public money that they pocket themselves while still failing to provide the services demanded.

when I was more naive I would ask 'but why not just make it all public? It'll be cheaper? and make it easier to be a doctor and give more grants to medical students and learning?' But now I know the reason answer... because it would benefit a few people (double digit numbers at the most) over the millions below. That's it. It is such an intensely simple way to look at it.

This is why Elon Musk becoming a trillionaire is one of the worst things to happen so far, because he is far from the first. The others are racing for trillionaire spots. What this means is basically they don't just control the economy of entire countries and can fully bypass any government they want, but they basically control the entire world.
