Luigi Mangione pleads not guilty to murdering healthcare CEO

Speaking to CBS, the BBC's US partner, on Sunday, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said that the online rhetoric has been "extraordinarily alarming".

"It speaks of what is really bubbling here in this country," he said. "And unfortunately we see that manifested in violence, the domestic violent extremism that exists."

Did he care about the domestic violent extremism before it started to affect the wealthy? What about the domestic terrorists who go after the queer community, POC communities, women, doctors providing reproductive healthcare...the list goes on.

Violent extremism isn't new here. It's just that this one affects people with power.

Why BBC doesn't call Hamas militants 'terrorists' - John Simpson

It's simply not the BBC's job to tell people who to support and who to condemn - who are the good guys and who are the bad guys.

I miss when this was the standard for news. Now most (e: major) outlets don't even try to pretend they have no bias and instead push a subjective point. Even when I agree with the point, I don't like it when my "news" pushes it instead of just, you know, reporting.

Give me the info and let me form my own opinions.

The lazy, entitled millennials trope just doesn’t hold up. Whoopi in hot water again...

“I’m sorry — if you only want to work four hours, it’s going to be harder for you to get a house,” she said

What a joke. I spent the better part of the last three years working 70 hour weeks until I burned myself to a crisp. I'm much better off financially than many people my age, yet I am somehow still years away from homeownership and starting a family - if I ever can.

Maybe Whoopi should retire and let a millennial do her job for her pay. Not me; I don't think I'd be able to work as hard as her. 🙄

I wish famous people would just shut up if they're going to say stupid shit. I don't want her tainting my TNG rewatch.

Team Trump Is Ready to Lose the Supreme Court Immunity Case. They're Celebrating

Reply in thread

We know why we're hated; it's why those of us who strive to exemplify professionalism, ethics, and civility are so angry and depressed. It's why I've been having a career crisis because I always wanted to go into law, but only to do good, and now it feels like there is so little legitimacy to the judicial branch.

Fuck the people who abuse the rule of law until there is none, fuck Trump and his cronies, and fuck SCOTUS for fucking us. Now excuse me, I have to go cry in a corner.

Biden directed US military to help Israel shoot down Iranian missiles, officials say

I have no issues with my politicians protecting people from being bombed. I'd love it if we'd also protect Ukraine with such vigor.

What I do have a problem with is when they provide the weaponry needed to commit genocidal actions and effectively encourage said usage by refusing to apply any sort of oversight.

Protecting Israel, or any other country from violence should be considered a good thing. Causing violence to Gaza, Lebanon, Iran, wherever, should not.

Canada's tariffs to remain despite Trump postponing tariffs on many imports from Canada for a month

Keep it up, Canada (and Mexico, too, please). The more pressure from outside, the more likely we can successfully apply pressure from inside to slow/stop/reverse the actions the current US administration takes.

It's gonna hurt and I'm not looking forward to it, but it's necessary. The world should remember the lesson from WWII that appeasement does not work and act accordingly.

Am I a bad person if (as left as they come) I invest in American Private Prison contractors on the assumption that Trump will go through with his deportation scheme at least to some extent?

Anyone voluntarily participating in the US for-profit prison system is, almost assuredly, a problematic person with questionable morals.

It's literally making money off of slavery. If you would not be proud to call yourself a slave-owner, I'd hope you would also not be proud to invest in slavery.

Royal "you," by the way. Not OP, specifically.
