I totally missed the point when PeerTube got so good
I have to say I think Peertube itself is good, but the content still isn't there yet. Of course we all know that's because there isn't cash to be made on Peertube

Spotify to raise prices in September

They age verify in the UK already...
For most people though they won't be hacking things to use Spotify. I agree £2 a month is OK but for me the issue is they charge a fortune yet pay artists a pittance

18% of people running Nextcloud don't know what database they are using
Nextcloud is pushed as an easy to use docker setup these days, heck most people I know who "use" it don't do much with it at all so what database it is using is gonna be way back in their list of priorities...
Plus the users outweigh the admins surely (as in those that just install then forget)

Tesla's European car sales nosedive for fifth month as customers switch to Chinese EVs
Here in the UK Musk is just seen as an idiot. Some decent European EV solutions coming along but the Chinese cars are so much better value than Tesla OR the main European makes. Couldn't happen to a nicer megalomaniac and as a plus I love seeing the monthly SpaceX explosions

Intel collapsing?
Reply in thread
Exactly this but people I have spoken to recently say that they are pretty much past the point of no return already haven taken (as said) a load of government money around the globe and cannot finish the fabs they were paid in advance to help them. Pretty much the worst fall from grace ever.

"Very dramatic shift" - Linus Tech Tips opens up about the channel's declining viewership
Youtube has seen exactly the same slowdown as everything on the internet. Plenty of people have less time to spend watching videos and being more worried about money (lack of it) whilst also spending more time on other things.i cannot blame one single thing but I have noticed that the complaints about AI being literally everywhere are at the foreground when people moan to me!

Govt easily has enough majority to ignore this, I said this when everyone was going it is time for Labour to have a go at the GE. Same govt is making it OK for 16 and 17yr old to vote but they have to be age checked on the tinternet....

Brave browser blocks Windows feature that takes screenshots of everything you do on your PC
Now whilst I enjoy all the comments I actually have to add something quickly that explains why this kind of thing happens. I recently worked with a rather old lady to find out why she was having so many issues with technology and stuff. I found out that when she started work in 1986 she was told that the shared password in her department at the local hospital was "password" and so she has used that on everything she can since to remember it... other gems that they used on whole departments included "qwerty" and "123456" and the best one of all "letmeinnow". On whole shared networks of 100+ machines...

It was ok until he said the AMD chip consumed more power. It is a X3D chip that is pretty much a given, if he'd gone for a none X3D chip he'd have saved quite a bit of power especially at idle. Plus he seems to use an AMD chip like an Intel chip with little or no idea how to tweak its power usage down

A domain I like has expired, how do I go about registering it for myself?
Change your surname to a domain that is available....
Of course I am kidding, but this kind of thing happens a lot, and it just ends up costing money to sort out. If you are happy with that then do it - if not then you will have to hope it becomes available on the free market at some time or see if it comes available in domain auctions as said. It really is that hit or miss, unless you are a Jones or Smith in which case there is zero chance

Apparent issues with ZFS on RPi 5
A Pi with a hat and 5 sata drives isn't ever going to perform very well with zfs in raid z1. cpu limited, io limited possibly even ram limited quite quickly. I love zfs but it a bit of a performance hog, though pretty bulletproof if setup correctly! the hat will be through a pci x1 interface, so at least set the pci to gen3 speeds. Jeff tells you about it here

There are quite a few that allow uploads without charges or subs. But not if you start now, right now because costs have risen so much you cannot possibly cover them if someone comes in and uploads 20 or so high quality high bandwidth sucking videos because well, there isnt really the audience and the money is basically lost... and as said that is where we are. Doesn't help they only really use h.264 and don't get ad revenue. Creators have zero interest in making a video if they don't get something back, either in plenty of views or some income which currently, to be brutal, they have zero chance of achieving on peertube compared to youtube
