Iran shows how it can happen

I am from Iran. whatever point you want to make about Iran with Pahlavi dictatorship, this aint it.

the parliament in Pahlavi era was literary just rubber stamp the king orders.

when shah (king) came back with help of CIA it reversed all the mashroote (conditional monarchy) progress and became a absolute dictatorship.

Iranian women condition are way better now than under Pahlavi (outside of dress code laws).

sorry to hear about trump fucking up your rights.

This man could not enter a mosque unless he burst until flames

As an Iranian, who is familiar with Islam I can give a explanation:

when prophet Mohammad first announced his prophecy and people in Arabian peninsula started joining him, a lot of slaves (or bonded servants) joined him.

also he would massage was about equality between poor and rich and he would speak about your worth not having anything with your wealth.

these and many other issues (they tried to silence him with riches but he refused), caused a lot of rich tribal leader to seek out their slaves to see if they are Muslim and would brutally torture them (to the death) to denounce Mohammad.

a lot of those slave would not repent and would be killed.

so Mohammad told them if you are getting tortured and dying, you can say you have denounced me and are no longer Muslim so that you can save your life. (kind like Jews in WWII Europe trying to save their life that they had to hide their identity)

that is sum of total of my life as an Iranian that I ever read anywhere hearing that you can lie as a muslim.

also fuck this POS.

Baby boomers' property tax revolt

unpopular opinion:
I agree with them... kinda.
if you live in your house, that's your home and you should not pay another rent based on its price.

using price of home for taxes causes every government official from mayor up to at best not really care if houses prices go up or actually fight policies that lower it.
I see a lot of people here that advocate for property taxes as a progressive tax but I don't see it that way at all.

my take is government should tax empty houses and rents for landlords.

it is a mistake to follow Neo-liberal thinking of "you are the landlord of you own home" which is prevalent in financial world to make homes investment assets and count rent as GDP which make government be happy that number go up.

I hear here that "boomers" like high price of houses so they "deserve" punishment of high property taxes.
but if you live you own home and don't make money of it, you don't get any positive from house prices going up. most "news" about someone selling their house for a lot of money and going into smaller house is just them needing that money for healthcare and living, not investment.

and this mentality makes a self-fulfilling situation that prevent from actual affordability of houses.

fight for high taxes on empty houses and rents. don't make people living in their own homes renters of government.

in my whole life living in iran the only stoning I saw was on a American drama movie about stoning a woman in Iran.

"equal rights in cases of rape" ?? what? you know Iran has one of the harshest punishment for rape which unfortunately they only define as rape of women (not men). so maybe you are a mens' rights activist in iran??

AOMedia To Release AV2 Video Codec At Year's End

Reply in thread

maybe, maybe not.

when h264 was introduced (Aug 2004), even intel had HW encoding for it with sandybridge in 2011. nvidia had at 2012

so less than 7 years.

av1 was first introduced 7 years ago and for at least two years android TVs require HW decoding for it.

And AMD rdna2 had the same 4 years ago.

so from introduction to hardware decoding it took 3 years.

I have no idea why 10 years is thrown around.

and av1 had to compete with h264 and h265 both. ( they had to decide if it was worth implementing it)
